Before you update
- Use a reliable internet connection. Samsung allows Wi-Fi or mobile data in its Philippines guidance, but some U.S. carriers require Wi-Fi for large updates. Check your carrier’s requirements if mobile data is unavailable as an option. Samsung Philippines Samsung U.S.
- Make sure the battery has enough charge. Samsung Philippines recommends at least 20% before starting; this is Samsung’s guidance, not a universal technical guarantee. Samsung Philippines
- Save your work and allow time for the phone to restart if prompted. Do not interrupt an installation that is in progress.
Install the update from your Galaxy phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update. Depending on the phone or carrier, the option may be called System updates or appear under About device.
- Tap Download and install, Check for system updates, or the update-check option shown on your screen. Your phone may start downloading or ask you to confirm the download.
- When the download finishes, follow the on-screen instructions to install the update. If the phone restarts, let it complete the process before using it.
Samsung India also documents these menu variations: Settings > About device > Software update > Update now and Settings > About device > Software update > Download and install. The exact labels are not identical on every Galaxy phone. Samsung India
Use Smart Switch on a computer
If an over-the-air update is not offered or the phone’s download keeps failing, Samsung documents Smart Switch as an alternate update method. You need a Windows PC or Mac, the Smart Switch application, and a working USB data connection.
- Install and open Smart Switch on the computer.
- Connect the Galaxy phone using a USB cable. Samsung recommends using the cable supplied with the device.
- Allow Smart Switch to detect the phone. If an update is offered, select Update and follow the prompts.
- Keep the cable connected and do not use the phone until the process finishes. The phone may restart during the update.
Smart Switch is optional; it is not required when the phone can update through Settings. Samsung U.S. Samsung Philippines

Which update method should you use?

If no update appears or the installation fails
The update may not have reached your phone yet
Samsung says updates are developed and released with carriers and may roll out in waves. An update announced for a device may therefore not be available to every eligible phone immediately. Check again later using the same update menu, and confirm release timing for your exact model and carrier. Samsung U.S.

Your connection or SIM may affect availability
Try a reliable Wi-Fi connection if a download will not start; some carriers require Wi-Fi for large updates. Samsung also notes that a phone unlocked by its original carrier may still require that carrier’s SIM to receive an update. That SIM condition does not apply to every unlocked phone. Samsung U.S.
Smart Switch cannot detect the phone
Check the phone’s USB connection setting and make sure the cable supports data transfer, not just charging. Then try another USB port or cable, or connect the phone to another computer. Samsung suggests these connection checks in its troubleshooting guidance. Samsung U.S.

A download was interrupted or an update still will not install
Reconnect to a reliable network and try the update again. If you are considering a factory reset as a later recovery step, back up important data first: Samsung warns that data stored on the device can be lost. A reset is not routine preparation for an update. Samsung U.S.

To inspect software details, open Settings > About phone > Software information. A listed version field describes that particular component; it should not be treated as a complete version number for every part of the phone’s software.
