You can try ReSkate on a Steam Deck by installing its files beside the Steam version of skate., then adding ReSkateLauncher.exe to Steam and launching it through Proton. ReSkate’s official setup instructions are written for Windows, however, and do not document a Steam Deck procedure; one community report describes success on a Deck OLED with Proton Experimental, which is not a compatibility guarantee.
What you need before installing
- A Steam Deck with desktop access and the Steam copy of skate.. ReSkate is a fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle. It requires your own Steam copy of the game. ReSkate README
- The latest ReSkate ZIP from the official releases page. Releases and compatibility requirements can change.
- A game installation matching the build ReSkate supports. The README identified Steam build
25414733as supported when checked for this guide; the launcher checks the game files against the supported build. Confirm the current requirement in the README before setup.
Valve describes Steam Deck as running SteamOS, with Proton for running Windows games and access to the desktop. ReSkate’s official README does not establish Deck compatibility or give SteamOS-specific steps. A community post reports ReSkate running on a Steam Deck OLED with Proton Experimental; that is an individual report, not confirmation for every Deck model or software version. Install ReSkate on Steam Deck
The file placement and launcher sequence below follow ReSkate’s official instructions. Using Desktop Mode and adding the launcher as a non-Steam game are Deck-specific steps based on community practice, not an official ReSkate procedure.
- Switch to Desktop Mode. Open the Steam menu, choose Power, then Switch to Desktop.
- Download and extract ReSkate. Download the latest ZIP from the ReSkate releases page and extract it. The archive should provide
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dll. - Find the game’s
Skate.exe. In Steam desktop, open the game’s properties and use its installed-files option to browse to the installation folder. LocateSkate.exethere. - Place both ReSkate files beside
Skate.exe. CopyReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllinto that folder. The README also permits extracting them into an empty folder, where the launcher can install the game; placing them beside the existing executable is the direct option for an installed Steam copy. - Add the launcher to Steam. In Steam desktop, choose Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, browse to the game folder, and select
ReSkateLauncher.exe. If it is not listed, change the file filter to show all files. - Set compatibility if needed. Open the new shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility and enable the option to force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. Select Proton Experimental if the launcher does not start normally. One Deck OLED user reported this setting working; it may not solve launch issues on another system.
- Launch ReSkate. Start the non-Steam shortcut. The launcher checks the game files and, if needed, authenticates or downloads through Steam. When ready, press PLAY. The launcher handles ReSkate updates.
After setup, return to Gaming Mode if preferred and launch the added shortcut from the Library. ReSkate documents Insert as the default key for opening its in-game menu; menu and console keys can be changed in launcher settings. ReSkate README

Connect to ReSkate multiplayer
ReSkate provides its own multiplayer routes: Steam lobbies and a dedicated-server browser. Its README says offline play does not require EA servers; these multiplayer options should not be confused with access to EA’s official servers. Once ReSkate is running, open its multiplayer or server-browser flow in game.

Troubleshoot launch and connection problems
The launcher will not start
- Confirm that
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllare together in the same folder asSkate.exe. - Try Proton Experimental in the non-Steam shortcut’s compatibility settings. This is a community-reported workaround, not an official fix or guaranteed solution.
- Check the README for the currently supported Steam game build. ReSkate checks game files against that build, and a mismatch can prevent use.
The game launches but the server browser is empty
- Make sure you are using ReSkate’s multiplayer/server-browser flow rather than expecting an EA-server connection.
- Try the Steam lobby route if you are joining friends; a lobby can be public or use a code and optional password.
- For dedicated servers, the browser can only show servers available at that time.
Review crash-reporting behavior
The README says that when the launcher or game crashes, ReSkate uploads a crash minidump and that session’s log to the project’s Backtrace account. It says the log does not contain your Steam password or login name. You can disable crash reporting in launcher Settings (ADVANCED) or set RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0. ReSkate README
Check the current release and game build
Both the ReSkate release and supported game build are version-sensitive. The releases page showed ReSkate v1.1.2, released October 6, 2026, when checked October 7, 2026; the README identified Steam build 25414733 as supported at that time. Check the releases page and README for the current ZIP and build requirement before installing.
