How to install multiple programs with Ninite

Open Ninite’s app-selection page and check the programs you want. The catalog can change, so review the current list there rather than relying on a fixed list of apps.

Choose the option to get your installer. Ninite generates a custom installer based on your selections; download that file.

Run the downloaded file on the Windows PC where you want the programs installed. Ninite says the installer works in the background, so you generally do not have to step through each selected app’s installer yourself.

Leave the PC connected to the internet while it runs. The installer contacts Ninite for configuration and downloads the selected app installers from their publishers’ sites.
Ninite describes its home-use website as free and supported by business customers. Its homepage sums up the workflow as “No toolbars. No clicking next. Just pick your apps and go.” That is Ninite’s promotional description; the exact installation behavior depends on each app.

What Ninite does during installation
According to Ninite’s “How Ninite Works” help page, a custom installer is associated with the apps you selected. When you run it, it checks those apps, skips ones that are already current, and upgrades selected apps that are out of date. Ninite says it downloads app installers from publisher sites and checks their digital signatures or hashes.
Ninite also says it chooses 32-bit or 64-bit software and the app language based on the PC at runtime. It generally hides the app installer window and automates the necessary steps, while leaving settings such as installation location at their defaults. Its help documentation describes installers as saying no to toolbars or other unwanted extras, but that does not mean every app offers identical choices or that you can customize every installation setting.

Use the installer again to update your selected apps
The downloaded installer can also act as an updater. Run it again later to check the same selected apps: Ninite says it skips those that are current and upgrades those that are not. Because the app installers are downloaded from their publishers when the standard installer runs, this workflow is designed to install current versions rather than preserve a particular older version.
Check Windows compatibility before you begin
Ninite’s homepage lists Windows 11, 10, 8.x, 7, and equivalent Windows Server versions as compatible. This is Ninite’s stated compatibility list, not a statement that Microsoft still supports every listed Windows release. Check your Windows version and its security-support status separately; compatibility with Ninite is not a reason to keep using an unsupported operating system.

When the standard installer is not the right fit

The offline-freezing and command-line instructions are explicitly labeled for Pro Classic. Ninite warns that these help pages may not match its newer Pro web interface, so verify current plan and interface details before relying on them. Do not assume Pro Classic instructions apply to the free home installer or to a different Pro interface.

Ninite says most apps install for all users by default, but it lists exceptions. Its documented /allusers switch is a Pro Classic feature, and the help page says it supports Chrome and Dropbox only; Dropbox has an additional caveat. See Ninite’s all-users help page for the scope and exception details rather than assuming the switch works with every app.

Ninite reported that about one million apps were installed and updated each day on its homepage when accessed October 8, 2026. That is a company-reported volume, not an independently audited statistic.
