1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsGoogle’s Windows client is now called Google Play Games on PC. You may still see “Google Play Games Beta” in older guides or help-page URLs, but the installation process is the same: download the official installer, pass the hardware checks, enable the required virtualization features, and install compatible games from Google’s PC catalog.
This guide covers the current requirements, official installation steps, account setup, game compatibility labels, and the most useful fixes when installation fails.
Before you install Google Play Games on PC
Check these requirements first. The installer will stop if your computer does not pass Google’s minimum-requirements check.
| Requirement | Google’s current minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 2004 or later |
| Storage | SSD with at least 10 GB available; the SSD should be the computer’s main drive |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Intel UHD Graphics 630 or a comparable GPU |
| Processor | Four physical CPU cores |
| Windows account | An account with administrator privileges |
| Virtualization | CPU hardware virtualization enabled in BIOS or UEFI |
Google recommends a gaming-class GPU, such as an Nvidia GeForce MX450, and eight logical CPU cores for better performance. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee that every game will run well.

Check your Windows version and hardware
- Press
Windows + R, typewinver, and press Enter. Confirm that Windows 10 is version 2004 or newer, or that you are running Windows 11. - Open Settings > System > About to view the installed RAM and processor.
- Open Settings > System > Storage and confirm that the installation drive has at least 10 GB free. Google’s installation errors specifically refer to available space on the
C:drive. - Open Task Manager with
Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Performance, and inspect the CPU, memory, and GPU entries.
Download Google Play Games on PC from Google
Use Google’s official download page rather than a third-party download site:
- On the Windows PC, open play.google.com/googleplaygames.
- Click Download.
- Open the downloaded installer from your browser’s download list or the Downloads folder.
- Follow the setup prompts.
No Command Prompt command or PowerShell command is required. The supported installation method is the downloaded installer and its on-screen instructions. Google says installation can take several minutes.
Enable virtualization when prompted
Google’s documentation refers to two different virtualization requirements. They are related, but they are not the same setting:
- CPU hardware virtualization: an Intel or AMD processor feature enabled in BIOS or UEFI.
- Windows Hypervisor Platform: an optional Windows feature that the installer may ask you to enable.
Enable Windows Hypervisor Platform
If the installer displays a prompt to enable Windows Hypervisor Platform, accept it and restart the computer. The prompt may not appear if the feature is already enabled.

Enable CPU virtualization in BIOS or UEFI
The exact menu varies by computer and motherboard manufacturer. Restart the PC, enter BIOS or UEFI using the key shown during startup—commonly F2, Delete, F10, or Esc—and look for an option with a name such as:
- Intel Virtualization Technology
- Intel VT-x
- SVM Mode on many AMD systems
- AMD-V
Save the change and restart Windows. If you cannot find the option, use the support instructions for your specific PC or motherboard model. There is no universal BIOS menu path.
Sign in and create your Play Games profile
Google Play Games on PC requires a personal Google Account. A work, school, or other managed account may not qualify. Your Google Play country must also be one of the supported countries or regions, and some locations require age verification.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Google Play Games on PC after installation.
- Sign in with your Google Account.
- If Google asks you to create a Play Games profile, enter a gamer name.
- Optionally select Edit to change the profile image.
- Click Create Profile.
Use the same Google Account as your Android phone or tablet if you want to use cross-device progress. Synchronization depends on the individual game; signing in with the same account does not guarantee that every game supports shared saves.
Install an Android game on Windows
- Open Google Play Games on PC.
- Search for the game you want to play.
- Open the game’s details page.
- Click Install.
- Launch the game from Google Play Games or the Windows Start menu after the download finishes.
The PC catalog is not identical to the Android Google Play catalog. You cannot install every Android game through this client. A title must be available and compatible with Google Play Games on PC.

Understand the compatibility labels
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Optimized | The developer optimized the game for Windows. |
| Playable | Google tested it and found it stable at 30 FPS or higher, with mouse and/or keyboard support. |
| Untested | Google has not tested the game on PC. It may still work. |
| Unsupported | Google found technical problems that may cause crashes, sign-in errors, or poor performance. |
| Not available | The game is unavailable on Google Play Games on PC or is unavailable for your particular computer. |
These labels are not permanent guarantees. Google says its testing is not continuous, so a label may not reflect the newest game version or every combination of PC hardware.
Fix Google Play Games installation errors
Start by identifying the error code, if one is shown. The following table matches Google’s current installation guidance to common codes.

Use Google’s general recovery sequence
For an installation that fails without a useful message, use this order:
- Confirm the Windows version, SSD space, RAM, processor, graphics, administrator access, and virtualization requirements.
- Enable Windows Hypervisor Platform if the installer asks you to do so, then restart.
- Uninstall Google Play Games through Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10, or Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11.
- Restart the computer.
- Download the installer again from Google’s Google Play Games on PC page.
- Run the new installer and try again.
- If the problem remains, run the installer again and choose Send feedback.
- Enable Send system information, enter
#gpginstallin the message box, and click Send.
Resolve conflicts with other emulators
Windows Hypervisor Platform can affect other Android emulators and virtual machines. Google warns that some may stop working while the required Windows hypervisor features are enabled.
If you need to disable the feature, use the Windows interface:

- Expand Hyper-V, then Hyper-V Platform.
- Clear Hyper-V Hypervisor.
- On Windows 10 Home, clear Windows Hypervisor Platform instead, as specified by Google.
- Restart the computer.
Disabling the hypervisor can prevent Google Play Games on PC from working. Turn it off only when you need compatibility with another emulator or virtual-machine setup, and turn it back on before using Google Play Games.
Keep the client updated
Google’s release notes state that, since June 5, 2025, Google Play Games on PC no longer supports versions released before May 2022. The minimum supported client version listed by Google is 22.5.464.0.
To check for an update:
- Find the Google Play Games on PC icon in the Windows taskbar notification area. Click the hidden-icons arrow if necessary.
- Right-click the icon.
- Select Check for updates.
- Follow the prompts.
If updating fails, uninstall the application, download a new installer from the official website, and reinstall it. An older guide may call the application “Google Play Games Beta,” but the current product name is Google Play Games on PC.
FAQ
Is Google Play Games Beta still the official name?
Google’s current product and support pages primarily call it Google Play Games on PC. “Google Play Games Beta” remains in some older help-page titles and legacy references.
Can I install every Android game on my Windows PC?
No. Google Play Games on PC has a separate catalog. A game must be available and compatible with the PC client, and its details page may show Optimized, Playable, Untested, Unsupported, or Not available.
Best Value

- Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance
Do I need to enable virtualization in BIOS?
CPU hardware virtualization is one of Google’s requirements for many games. The installer may also require Windows Hypervisor Platform, which is a separate Windows feature. You may need both.
How much storage does Google Play Games on PC require?
Google’s current minimum is an SSD with at least 10 GB available. The installation-error guidance specifically says to free at least 10 GB on the C: drive.
Will my Android game progress transfer to Windows?
It can if the game supports cross-device synchronization. Sign in with the same Google Account used on Android, but remember that progress syncing is controlled by the individual game.
Why does Google Play Games conflict with another Android emulator?
Windows Hypervisor Platform can prevent some other emulators from working. You can disable the relevant Windows hypervisor feature through Control Panel, but Google Play Games may then stop working until the feature is enabled again.
The Bottom Line
Install Google Play Games on PC from play.google.com/googleplaygames, not from a third-party download page. Confirm the current minimums—Windows 10 version 2004, 8 GB RAM, four physical CPU cores, a suitable GPU, 10 GB of SSD space, administrator access, and virtualization—before starting. Then use the game’s PC compatibility label to determine whether it is likely to work. If setup fails, reinstall with a freshly downloaded installer after checking Windows updates, storage, network access, and both virtualization requirements.
