Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Install Codex CLI with npm, then launch it from the folder for the project you want to work on. OpenAI’s documented command is npm install -g @openai/codex; on first run, use the sign-in prompt to authenticate with ChatGPT.
Check the current platform instructions first
Codex CLI instructions can change, and OpenAI’s documentation has differed on Windows support. A newer OpenAI Help Center guide includes Windows setup guidance and a choice involving Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), while an older CLI getting-started article describes Windows support as experimental and says WSL may be needed. Follow the current setup guidance for your operating system rather than treating the older note as definitive: OpenAI Codex plans and limits.
OpenAI describes Codex CLI as a way to work with code from a terminal. The official setup materials cited here do not establish a minimum Node.js version, so check the current instructions if your package manager reports a prerequisite or compatibility issue.
Install Codex CLI
Use npm to install the package globally, so the codex command is available from your terminal:
