Install Avast using the route for your device: download the desktop installer from Avast’s official site on Windows or Mac, or install Avast One from Google Play or Apple’s App Store on Android or iPhone. Check compatibility first. New mobile installations use Avast One, which is replacing Avast Mobile Security.
Choose the installation path for your device

Check the current Avast Antivirus system requirements before downloading, especially if your device uses Windows 11 ARM or an older operating system.
Install Avast on Windows
- Check and prepare Windows. Install available Windows updates and sign in to an administrator account. Avast advises removing other third-party antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, or anti-malware software before installation because it can cause conflicts. Follow the instructions for your specific security product rather than disabling unrelated protections. See Avast’s Windows installation preparation and product guides.
- Choose the product and download its installer. Get the current setup file from Avast’s official product page, then use the guide for Avast Free Antivirus, Premium Security, or Avast One. Do not use an installer from an unfamiliar download site.
- Run setup. Open the downloaded installer. For Avast One, Avast’s guide says to click Install and follow the on-screen prompts. Other Avast products may show product-specific steps.
- Activate a paid subscription if you have one. Installation and subscription activation are separate. Avast One can be activated by signing in to your Avast Account or entering a valid activation code; follow the current activation prompts for the product you installed.
Avast says a free Avast Antivirus version is included by default in Avast One for Windows and Mac. A paid plan is optional; choose it only if you have a subscription or want the paid product.
Install Avast on a Mac
- Check macOS and hardware compatibility. Compare your Mac with Avast’s published system requirements before downloading.
- Download and open the Mac installer. Get the installer from Avast and open the downloaded DMG file.
- Follow the installer prompts. Launch the installer, accept the displayed privacy policy and license terms, and proceed. Depending on the product, you may be asked to select users or confirm an installation location.
- Approve requested permissions. Provide credentials or use Touch ID if requested, then allow Avast’s protection permissions in macOS. If a “System Extension Blocked” notification appears during the process, Avast’s Mac installation guide says to click OK and continue with the permission steps.
- Restart if needed. Avast notes that some components may not work fully until you restart your Mac.
If installation still fails, Avast’s troubleshooting guidance is to check compatibility, uninstall Avast Security and other antivirus software, restart the Mac, and try again using its Mac installation instructions.

Install Avast One on Android or iPhone
- Confirm your operating system is supported. Avast lists Android 10.0/API 29 or later and iOS 17.0 or later as minimums for Avast One. Check the app’s current store listing as device and store compatibility can change.
- Open your device’s app store. Search for Avast One in Google Play on Android or the Apple App Store on iPhone or iPad, and install the app from there.
- Open Avast One and complete setup. Follow the in-app prompts and grant permissions you want Avast to use. Avoid downloading mobile security apps from third-party sites.
- Restore a subscription if you already paid. The restoration route depends on where the subscription was purchased: it may be associated with an Avast Account, Google Play, or the App Store. Use the current Avast One instructions for your purchase channel.
Avast says all new Android and iOS installations use Avast One as it replaces Avast Mobile Security. The older Mobile Security app’s installation and subscription-restoration support page documents channel-specific restoration options, but new installs should follow the current Avast One route.

If the installer does not work
- Installation is blocked or fails: Recheck the operating-system and hardware requirements, confirm you downloaded the current installer from Avast or the official app store, and follow the product-specific instructions.
- Another security program is installed: Avast recommends removing third-party security software that could conflict with setup. Use that program’s uninstall process; do not simply turn off protections and leave conflicting software in place.
- Mac protection appears incomplete: Finish the requested macOS permissions and restart, since Avast says some components may require a restart to function fully.
- A paid feature is unavailable: Verify that you installed the intended product and activate or restore the subscription through the relevant Avast Account or store channel.
- The problem persists: Use Avast’s support and installation guidance for the affected product.
