Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo test an iOS beta safely, first make a fresh backup while your iPhone is still running public iOS, then enroll the phone through Apple’s Beta Software Program and select an available beta in Software Update. Use a secondary iPhone if possible: beta software can contain errors and may be less reliable than a public release. Returning to public iOS immediately requires erasing and restoring the device, so plan for that before you install.
Should you install an iOS beta on your iPhone?
Install a beta only if you are comfortable with bugs, reduced reliability, and the possibility of having to erase and restore your iPhone. Apple recommends beta software on a non-production, non-business-critical device, preferably a secondary device. If you depend on your phone for work or essential daily tasks, the safer choice is to wait for the public release.
A secondary iPhone limits disruption to your everyday workflows, but it means you need access to another device for testing. If you use your main phone, consider whether you can tolerate essential apps or features not working as expected and whether you can manage a restore if you decide to leave early.
Back up before installing
Make a fresh backup before enrolling or installing the beta, and keep a backup made while the phone is on public iOS. This is the backup you may need if you return to an earlier public version. Apple warns that a backup created while the iPhone is running beta iOS cannot be used to restore an earlier iOS version.

Check the iPhone and update prerequisites
- Compatibility: The iPhone must support the beta being offered. Availability can differ by model and current program releases.
- Internet and storage: Connect to the internet and make sure enough storage is available for the update. Wi-Fi is a practical choice for downloading.
- Power: Keep the iPhone connected to power during a wireless update.
Apple’s general guidance on preparing for and installing an iOS update is at Update your iPhone or iPad.

Stop future beta updates
On iOS 16.4 or later, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > Off. This stops future beta updates; it does not remove or downgrade the beta already installed. You can install the next public version through Software Update when it becomes available. See Apple’s instructions for unenrolling devices.

Return to public iOS immediately
To remove the beta before a public release is available, Apple requires erasing and restoring the iPhone. Use the archived backup made before installing the beta; a backup made on beta iOS will not restore to an earlier public version. If you installed the beta using a computer, a computer restore is required to remove it. Apple’s steps are in How to uninstall iOS or iPadOS beta software.
Restore from a backup
You can restore an appropriate backup from iCloud during setup or from a computer using Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes. Select the dated pre-beta backup if you are returning to an earlier public iOS version. Apple explains the available methods in Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup.

Troubleshoot an unavailable or failed update
- The beta does not appear: Confirm the device is compatible, enrolled, and eligible for the current offer. Program availability and supported devices can change.
- The download is slow or fails: Check internet access and available storage, retry on reliable Wi-Fi, and keep the phone powered. Server connectivity or a long download can also affect an update. Apple’s update guidance is at Update your iPhone or iPad.
- Wireless update still will not complete: Try updating with a Mac or PC. If you use a computer for an update or restore, Apple recommends the supplied cable or another Apple-certified USB cable; match the connector to your iPhone model.
