Choose the installation route for your Visio license

Install Visio Plan 2 or a perpetual edition
- Use the account that owns the license. For Plan 2, use the work or school account assigned the license. For a perpetual purchase, use the personal Microsoft account associated with it. If you are signed into the wrong account, switch accounts before continuing.
- Redeem a new perpetual key once, if it has not already been redeemed. Go to Office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup and follow the prompts. The key becomes associated with the account; use that account for later downloads rather than entering the key again. [Microsoft Support]
- Open the installation flow. Sign in at Microsoft365.com. For Plan 2, choose Install apps, select Visio from the app dropdown, choose a language, and select Install. For a perpetual license, open the account’s services or subscriptions area and choose the Visio install option.
- Run the installer. Check that the PC meets the system requirements. Open the downloaded OfficeSetup.exe or choose Open in the browser. Approve the User Account Control prompt if it appears, then wait for “You’re all set!” before closing the installer. [Microsoft Support]
- Activate when prompted. Sign in to Visio with the same personal or work or school account that owns the license. A redeemed key generally is not entered again to activate the app. [Microsoft Support]
Open Visio Plan 1 in a browser
Plan 1 does not include the desktop application. Go to visio.cloud.microsoft and sign in with the work or school account associated with the plan. If you need the desktop app, confirm whether your organization can assign a Plan 2 license. [Microsoft Support]

Volume licensing
Your organization may control deployment and assignment. Ask IT for installation instructions or license assignment. Microsoft’s Product Activation Portal provides assistance for perpetual-product activation and volume-key management. Visio is not offered in the install menu
Check that you signed in with the correct account. For Plan 2, Microsoft says the license may not have been assigned if Visio is missing; ask your administrator to verify the assignment. A Plan 1 license does not include the desktop app. [Microsoft Support]
The key says it has already been used
This message does not necessarily mean you cannot install or activate Visio. Sign in with the Microsoft account that redeemed the key, then install Visio from that account’s services or subscriptions area. [Microsoft Support]
You bought a key but cannot identify its account
Check the personal Microsoft accounts you may have used at purchase or redemption and look for Visio in each account’s services or subscriptions. Microsoft warns that keys sold separately by unauthorized sellers may be stolen or fraudulent; avoid buying another key from an unverified source. [Microsoft Support]
