A Samsung gas dryer needs a compatible gas supply, grounded electrical power, and an exhaust duct routed outdoors. Samsung says gas appliances should be installed by a qualified technician, service company, or gas supplier in accordance with the dryer’s instructions and local codes. Use this guide to prepare, coordinate the work, and verify the result—not as a substitute for your model’s manual or qualified gas-line work.
What hookups does a Samsung gas dryer need?
At minimum, plan for three things: a gas supply that matches the dryer, grounded electrical power, and a properly installed exhaust duct. Samsung’s US buying guide describes a 120V outlet for gas dryers, while its delivery checklist calls for a grounded 110V three-prong outlet. Because those descriptions differ, check the electrical requirements in the manual for your exact model and follow applicable local requirements rather than assuming either figure applies universally. The exhaust must discharge outdoors. Samsung specifies rigid or stiff-walled flexible metal ducting, not plastic flexible duct. The correct duct route, length limits, clearances, and connection details depend on the dryer model and installation; use the model manual and local code for those specifics.
Prepare before the dryer arrives
- Find the model number and manual. Download the user and installation instructions for the exact dryer before moving it or buying parts. Samsung’s dryer setup and installation overview is general guidance and directs users to the product manual for model-specific details.
- Check the electrical outlet. Confirm that a suitable grounded outlet is available within reach. Resolve the 110V-versus-120V wording by following the exact model manual and local electrical requirements.
- Inspect the gas supply and shutoff. Make sure the supply and shutoff are present, accessible, and in good condition. Samsung’s delivery checklist says its delivery service requires the gas line to be within four feet of the dryer location; that is a service-readiness condition, not a universal code requirement.
- Inspect the exhaust route. Confirm the duct can be connected and vented outdoors. Clear lint or blockage from an existing path, and plan to use metal ducting in the configuration allowed by the manual.
- Check the space and floor. Make sure the floor is solid enough to support the dryer and that there is room for the appliance and door movement. Follow the manual for clearances; level the dryer using its feet and a level.
- Arrange qualified help where needed. Samsung says gas appliances should be installed by a qualified technician, service company, or gas supplier. Have a qualified professional handle gas connections, conversion, and any work whose code requirements or suitability you cannot verify.
Who can connect a Samsung gas dryer?
Use a qualified appliance technician, service company, or gas supplier for the gas connection, following Samsung’s instructions and local code. Samsung’s Home Appliance Terms and Conditions warns that improper installation can create shock, fire, explosion, product-damage, or injury hazards. A delivery or installation service may have a limited scope, so confirm in advance what it will and will not do.

Can you convert a Samsung dryer to propane?
Samsung’s general guide says its gas dryers are configured for natural gas by default and that LP conversion must be performed by a qualified service technician. Samsung’s US installation service does not perform natural-gas-to-LP conversion; arrange a licensed professional instead. The conversion kit and procedure are model-specific: do not assume Samsung’s LPKIT-4/XAA instructions apply to your dryer unless the model documentation or an authorized source confirms compatibility. That kit’s instructions restrict installation to qualified personnel.
Choosing installation supplies
Searches for “gas dryer installation kit” can help locate candidate supplies, but a bundled kit is not automatically right for every dryer or installation. Before buying, have the installer check the dryer manual, connector requirements, vent material and configuration, and local code. Gas-line products should support work by a qualified professional.

Treat it as an overview, not a universal step-by-step procedure: the exact connection method and permitted duct layout depend on the model and local requirements.

The installer should make a secure exhaust connection and follow the manual’s routing and joint instructions. Samsung’s guide says to use rigid or stiff-walled flexible metal duct rather than plastic, and to check that the dryer is level and sits firmly on the floor.
How to verify the installation
Do not treat startup checks as a substitute for qualified gas work. After installation, Samsung’s general guide calls for checking for gas leaks, confirming the exhaust is connected, running a short functional test, and using the dryer’s vent blockage test.

- Check operation: Confirm the dryer starts and runs, produces heat, and shuts off as expected. Samsung describes a 30-second Time Dry functional check in its setup guide.
- Check the vent: Run Samsung’s vent blockage test as directed for the model to help identify a blocked duct or other venting problem.
- Pay attention to ignition: Samsung notes that air can remain in the gas line, so the burner may not ignite immediately. Its general guide says that if gas does not ignite within five minutes, turn the dryer off, wait five minutes, verify the gas supply is on, and check exhaust heat to confirm ignition. Follow the exact manual and stop for qualified help if ignition fails, behavior is unusual, or you are unsure.
- Stop for a suspected leak: Do not continue testing if you smell gas. Follow the safety steps below.
What should you do if you smell gas?
Samsung’s safety guidance says: “Do not try to light or turn any appliance and do not touch any electrical switch.” Clear the room, building, or area of occupants. From a safe distance, call the gas supplier; if the supplier cannot be reached, call the fire department. Do not resume use until the situation has been addressed.
