The game and platform matter: there is no universal graphics preset or shader-cache fix, and PC troubleshooting steps do not apply to console players.
First identify what is happening
“Lag” can mean several different symptoms. Low FPS usually looks persistently slow or choppy. Stutter or hitching is a brief pause or uneven frame delivery, sometimes tied to a particular scene or action. Network lag is delayed online response; graphics settings may not fix it. Note which symptom you see and when it occurs before changing settings.
Record the game and platform. For PC, also note Windows version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, system memory, graphics-driver version, display resolution and refresh rate, and current graphics settings. Console players should use the publisher’s console-specific support material rather than Windows, Steam, driver, or shader-cache instructions.
Check requirements and game-specific issues
On PC, compare your hardware with the game’s official minimum and recommended requirements, and check its current publisher support page or known-issues information. Steam cautions that meeting system requirements does not guarantee high FPS or strong performance: Steam Support’s performance troubleshooting guide. Requirements and fixes are game-specific. A support page for another game can illustrate a troubleshooting approach, but its menu paths, patches, or cache behavior are not automatically applicable to your Soulslike.
Reduce graphics load and isolate the setting that matters
- Start with a lower graphics preset if your PC is below the recommended tier, then test the same area or activity again. Restart the game if it asks you to apply the changes.
- If performance remains poor, change one graphics setting at a time and repeat the same test. This helps show whether that setting changes FPS or stutter; there is no universal best preset or guaranteed FPS gain for an unnamed game.
- Temporarily close resource-heavy background programs, including recording software and performance overlays, then retest. Capcom lists background applications as a potential troubleshooting factor.
If a change has no effect, restore it when appropriate and continue testing rather than assuming it fixed the cause.

Update software and check which GPU the game uses
On PC, install current graphics drivers and Windows updates, then restart after installing a driver. On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, confirm that the game is assigned to the intended high-performance GPU; using the lower-power graphics processor can affect performance. Capcom includes driver updates, Windows updates, and high-performance GPU selection among its PC troubleshooting recommendations.
Verify files and handle shader caches only as the game directs
If game files may be damaged, use the official file-verification process for your storefront and game. Follow the storefront or publisher’s instructions rather than deleting files manually.

Shader-cache advice is not universal. Capcom says damaged shader-cache files can cause some graphical issues, while Square Enix documents a separate first-play cache-compilation behavior for a particular supported game. In that game, compilation may take 35 to 90 minutes depending on PC specifications; that duration and its instructions should not be applied to other games. Use cache instructions only when they are provided for your specific game and GPU.
Check ventilation and heat without guessing
Make sure the PC has adequate airflow and that vents are not obstructed. Capcom notes: “Gameplay may not be as smooth if your PC generates too much heat.” It suggests reducing graphics settings or limiting frame rate to reduce heat. That is a reason to check cooling and load, not proof that your PC is thermally throttling; confirm temperatures or other relevant measurements before diagnosing throttling.

When the problem persists
Track whether the issue is constant or limited to a particular location, camera turn, combat effect, loading moment, or longer session. These patterns help describe the problem; on their own, they do not establish its cause. Include the following when contacting the game’s support team:
- Game title, platform, operating system, and PC hardware details, including GPU and VRAM.
- Driver version, resolution, refresh rate, and graphics settings.
- Where and when the issue occurs, what is happening in-game, and steps that reproduce it.
- Whether restarting or a specific change affected the symptom.
- A short video or screenshots if they help show the problem.
Capcom’s support guidance recommends providing system and graphics details and information about the circumstances of the issue. If the problem appears only in one game or location, report that specificity instead of presenting it as a system-wide fault.
