If battery life suddenly worsened after an iOS update, check Settings > Battery before changing several settings, then give update-related background tasks a few days to finish.
Use Adaptive Power for everyday battery management
Adaptive Power is designed to make small adjustments automatically when your recent usage suggests you may need more battery. Apple says it can slightly lower display brightness, limit background activity, make performance adjustments, and turn on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20%. It is on by default on iPhone Air.
Find it at Settings > Battery > Power Mode. After you turn it on, Apple says it needs at least seven days to learn your charging habits before it engages. That means it may not respond immediately to a new pattern of use.
Apple documents what Adaptive Power may change, but does not quantify how many extra hours it provides on iPhone Air. The result depends on how you use the phone.

Turn on Low Power Mode when you need to conserve charge
For an immediate battery-saving option, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode and enable Low Power Mode. It reduces or pauses some power-intensive conveniences, including background app refresh, Mail fetch, automatic downloads, and certain visual effects. Apple also describes reduced brightness and a 30-second Auto-Lock while the mode is active.
These changes can mean less current information in apps and fewer automatic updates or downloads. Low Power Mode turns off when the iPhone reaches 80% charge, according to Apple Support.

Reduce screen and cellular power use
Dim the display or use Auto-Brightness
A bright display can use more power. Apple recommends lowering brightness or enabling Auto-Brightness so the screen can adapt to surrounding light. You can adjust brightness in Control Center; Auto-Brightness is available in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
Choose Wi-Fi when it is available
Apple says Wi-Fi uses less power than cellular data when accessing data. When you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection, use it instead of relying on cellular data. The actual effect varies with reception, activity, and other conditions; Apple does not give a fixed runtime gain for either adjustment.

Find out what is draining the battery before changing more settings
- Open Settings > Battery. Review Apple’s battery suggestions, Insights, and usage details to identify recent patterns or unusually active apps.
- Check whether the drain began after an iOS update. Apple says background tasks related to an update can continue for several days and temporarily affect battery life. Wait a few days, then review usage again.
- Check Battery Health. If Battery Health shows a Service indicator, Apple says to consider battery replacement.
Apple defines battery life as how long a device works before it needs to be recharged. Its troubleshooting guidance distinguishes that day-to-day runtime from battery health, which reflects the battery’s condition. Reviewing both usage and health helps separate a temporary workload from a battery that may need service. See Apple’s iPhone and iPad battery-drain guidance.
What iPhone Air battery estimates do—and do not—tell you
Apple’s iPhone Air specifications list up to 27 hours of video playback and up to 22 hours of streamed video playback. With the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, Apple lists up to 40 hours of video playback and up to 35 hours of streamed video playback. These are Apple’s specified playback estimates, not a forecast of mixed-use screen time; day-to-day results vary with usage and conditions.

Apple’s 2025 launch announcement described iPhone Air as delivering “fantastic all-day battery life.” That is Apple’s product claim, not an independent test result. Apple’s specifications provide a more concrete reference, but they still describe controlled playback scenarios rather than every person’s typical day.

If you regularly need more runtime away from a charger, the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is an optional external accessory. It requires a purchase, while the settings above are free. Apple’s playback estimates with the accessory offer a defined comparison for video playback, but they do not establish how much additional mixed-use time a particular owner will get.

Settings are the simpler first step: Adaptive Power works automatically, while Low Power Mode has noticeable convenience tradeoffs. An accessory adds a separate charging option when those software adjustments are not enough for your routine.
