Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo improve unplugged battery life on a ThinkPad T14, lower screen brightness, disconnect unused accessories, switch off Bluetooth when you do not need it, select the most battery-efficient power mode available on your system, and hibernate or shut down during longer breaks. The exact controls vary by T14 generation and Windows version, so check your model before following model-specific instructions.
Start with the settings and habits that reduce power use
Lower screen brightness
Set brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable for your work. Lenovo identifies the display as one of the largest users of battery power; lowering brightness is a practical first adjustment.
Disconnect accessories you are not using
Unplug USB devices and other accessories when they are not needed. In particular, avoid using the laptop to charge a phone or headphones unless necessary.
Turn off Bluetooth when you do not need it
Disable Bluetooth if no connected device is required. Keep it enabled when you rely on a mouse, headset, or other Bluetooth accessory.

Choose a battery-oriented power mode
Select the efficiency-focused power mode offered by your laptop and operating system. Lenovo describes Best Power efficiency as reducing power consumption, fan speed, and performance to improve battery life. Balanced makes a compromise among those factors; Best Performance prioritizes performance. The available labels and controls vary by system, so confirm the Windows version and T14 generation rather than assuming every model has the same menu.
For Lenovo systems that provide Intelligent Cooling controls, the setting may also affect performance and fan behavior. Refer to documentation for your exact model before changing a model-specific control.

Hibernate or shut down for longer breaks
Standby continues to use energy to keep the laptop ready to resume. If you will not use the T14 for an extended period, hibernate or shut it down instead.
Identify your T14 generation before following model-specific guidance
T14 covers multiple generations and configurations, and power controls can change between models and Windows versions. Check the machine type or generation before using a model-specific menu path, selecting a charger, or ordering a battery. Lenovo’s support and parts resources can help locate documentation and compatibility information for a particular machine.

For a laptop that stays plugged in, consider charge-lifespan settings
Maximizing the charge available for your next unplugged session is different from reducing long-term battery wear. If the T14 spends most of its time connected to AC power, Lenovo recommends using Vantage battery controls to limit how fully the battery charges when it is not in heavy use. On supported systems, Conservation Mode or Optimize for Battery Lifespan may cap charging at 80% or 60% while the AC adapter is connected. Availability and labels depend on the model.
A lower charge ceiling means less stored energy for a single unplugged session; it is a battery-lifespan trade-off, not a way to extend that session.

Use the right charger or portable power for your exact model
AC adapters
Lenovo’s 2023 guide lists 45W or 65W AC adapter options for T14 Gen 4 Intel and AMD configurations. That specification is for Gen 4 and should not be generalized to every T14; confirm the requirements for your machine before buying an adapter.
USB-C power banks
A USB-C Power Delivery bank rated at 65W or higher may be worth considering for portable charging, but verify that your exact laptop supports USB-C charging and check its wattage requirements against the bank’s output. A power bank supplies power; it does not restore capacity lost to battery wear.

Charging temperature
Lenovo’s 2023 T14 Gen 4 guide recommends charging between 10°C and 35°C. Follow the guidance for your model if it differs.
When to investigate battery wear
If the laptop’s measured full-charge capacity has declined, efficiency settings can reduce power use but cannot restore the battery’s lost capacity. A replacement may be appropriate, but there is no single compatible part number for all T14 laptops. Use Lenovo’s model- or serial-based parts and compatibility lookup before purchasing, and confirm the replacement is listed for your exact machine.
What to expect from these changes
These adjustments can reduce avoidable power use, but they do not guarantee a particular runtime or percentage improvement. Lenovo notes that actual battery life varies significantly with settings, usage, configuration, and other factors. There is no universal runtime figure that applies to every T14.
