Then adjust background activity only for apps that do not need to stay current. Menu names and options vary by model and OxygenOS version, so treat power-saving suggestions as choices—not settings you must turn off.
1. Find out what is using battery
Open Settings > Battery and look for battery usage details. Depending on your OnePlus model and software, the page may show use since the last full charge or over the previous 24 hours. Check which apps or processes account for the most use, and compare that with how you used the phone.
A high entry is not automatically a problem. Navigation, video, gaming, and long periods with the screen on can reasonably use substantial power. Look instead for activity that seems unexpectedly high for an app you barely used. OnePlus does not specify a universal percentage or threshold that identifies an abnormal drain, and the exact menu wording can differ by device and software version. See the OnePlus Open User Manual and the OnePlus user manuals for device-specific guidance.
2. Limit background activity selectively
If an app you rarely use is active in the background, review its battery controls before changing settings across the phone. Depending on the model, look under Settings > Battery for app battery management or battery optimization, then select the app and review the available options. Paths and labels are not identical across OxygenOS versions.

Restricting background activity can reduce power use, but it may also delay updates or notifications. Keep fewer restrictions on apps where prompt alerts matter, such as critical messaging or navigation services. On the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite running OxygenOS 14.0, the manual warns that turning off “Allow foreground activity” may prevent an app from running properly and delay notifications. That is a model- and version-specific warning, but it illustrates why blanket restrictions can have unwanted effects.
Make one change at a time, then see whether the app behaves as expected and whether its battery use changes. If an app’s alerts arrive late or a feature stops working, restore its previous battery setting.

3. Choose power-saving changes you can live with
Some OnePlus phones offer a one-tap Save power or similar optimization feature that detects power consumption issues. Review its recommendations rather than accepting every suggestion automatically. A recommendation can save energy while making a feature less convenient.
An older OnePlus Android 12 system guide gives examples such as turning off power-draining apps or GPS, switching the refresh rate to 60 Hz, and shortening the auto screen-off time. These examples are not a promise that every current OnePlus phone offers those controls. Consider the tradeoff for each suggestion:

- Shorter screen timeout: often a low-impact adjustment if you are comfortable with the display turning off sooner.
- Lower refresh rate: may reduce display smoothness, so keep your preferred setting if that matters more to you.
- Location changes: can interfere with navigation or other services that need location access; avoid restricting those services when you rely on them.
- App restrictions: may affect background updates and timely alerts, so apply them only to apps that do not need uninterrupted activity.
Battery Saver is another option for a low-battery moment or a long day away from an outlet. OnePlus says it can extend battery life by restricting apps and device features. Those restrictions may change how the phone behaves, so use it when the extra runtime is worth the tradeoff rather than treating it as a required everyday setting.

Optimized charging and related charging features are intended to slow battery aging, not to stop an app from draining the current charge. On supported devices, the OnePlus Open manual says Optimised charging learns charging habits and may delay charging beyond 80% until closer to the expected time of use. Availability and behavior vary by model.

OnePlus support also gives advice about charging and long-term storage. It recommends keeping the surrounding temperature between 5°C and 35°C while charging. For a phone stored for a long period, OnePlus advises keeping the battery above 60%, storing the phone in a cool, dry place, and recharging every four or five months. These are manufacturer care recommendations, not settings that guarantee longer daily runtime. See OnePlus support’s battery guidance.
5. Check battery capacity if the drain persists
Settings may not be the only explanation for short runtime. On supported devices, check the battery health or maximum-capacity information in the phone’s battery settings. The OnePlus Open manual defines maximum capacity as an estimate of current battery capacity compared with when the device was new; a lower percentage means less use time between charges. The exact menu and availability can differ on other models.
If runtime remains unusually short after you review recent usage and make appropriate selective changes, or the reported capacity is low, contact OnePlus or an authorized service provider for model- and region-specific advice. The manuals do not establish one universal service threshold.
6. Add power without changing phone settings
If you need more time away from an outlet but want to keep your usual features enabled, a USB-C power bank is an optional source of extra power. It does not reduce the phone’s consumption or restore its battery capacity; it simply gives you another way to recharge while away from a wall outlet. OnePlus does not endorse a particular power bank in the guidance cited here.
