To make a Dell XPS 13 last longer on a charge, lower the screen brightness, turn on Windows Battery Saver when you need extra runtime, and check which apps are using the most battery. If runtime is still unusually short, check battery health before considering service or a replacement. The exact options differ across XPS 13 generations, so use model-specific Dell instructions for BIOS and charging settings.
Quick changes to extend runtime
Lower the screen brightness
Reduce brightness to a comfortable level, especially when you are away from a power outlet. Dell identifies the display as a significant power draw and recommends brightness reduction as the first runtime adjustment. The amount of extra time you get depends on your display and workload; there is no reliable number of hours that applies to every XPS 13. Dell’s XPS battery-runtime guidance notes that results vary with display panel and configuration.
Turn on Battery Saver when needed
Use Windows Battery Saver when preserving the current charge matters more than having every background activity run normally. It is a practical, reversible setting for travel or other time away from power. Windows labels and available controls can vary by version, so use the Battery Saver control in your Windows battery or quick settings interface.
Check which apps use the battery
Open Windows battery settings and review the per-app battery usage list. Look for an app consuming an unusually large share, then close it only if you recognize it and do not need it. Avoid ending unfamiliar processes simply because they appear high in the list; they may support Windows or another application.

Optional advanced tradeoff: Intel Turbo Boost
Dell says disabling Intel Turbo Boost can increase battery runtime, but it reduces maximum performance. Treat this as an optional tradeoff rather than a first-line fix: it may not be available in the BIOS on every XPS 13, and the setting is model-dependent. If you are comfortable changing firmware settings, consult the documentation for your exact model before doing so. Dell describes the tradeoff in its XPS runtime guidance.
If your XPS 13 is usually plugged in
Charging-management features can help manage long-term battery condition on supported models, but they do not make a fully charged battery last longer during the current unplugged session. Dell’s Power Manager capabilities for XPS have been integrated into MyDell; availability and controls depend on the device. Check Dell Power Manager information and use Dell Support with your service tag to find current applications and instructions for your laptop.

Do not assume a charging mode shown in a manual for another XPS generation exists on yours. For example, Dell’s charging-mode examples in the XPS 13 9305 owner manual and BIOS charging options in the XPS 13 9310 service manual apply to those models, not automatically to the whole XPS 13 line. See the 9305 owner manual and 9310 service manual only if you have the corresponding machine.

If brightness, Battery Saver, and app usage do not explain unexpectedly poor runtime, check the battery’s health and condition. Runtime settings reduce power use; they cannot restore capacity lost through battery wear. Dell’s battery performance guidance explains battery-health and power-management considerations.
