To import an LM358 model into LTspice XVII, download TI’s LMx58_LM2904 PSpice Model, Rev. C (SNOM268C.ZIP), inspect its contents, then follow the workflow for the declaration you find. A .SUBCKT model needs a symbol with prefix X, the exact subcircuit name, and matching pin order; a .MODEL file uses a different linking method. TI labels its download as a PSpice model, so verify LTspice compatibility with a small test circuit rather than assuming it.

1. Download and inspect TI’s LM358 model

Open TI’s LM358 product page and locate the LMx58_LM2904 PSpice Model (Rev. C) download, archive SNOM268C.ZIP. Extract the archive and open the text model file in a text editor. The exact file contents, declaration name, and terminal sequence must come from that file; do not infer them from the archive filename or the appearance of an op-amp symbol.

TI also lists the LM358 family datasheet on that page. Check the datasheet and the exact part you intend to simulate when package or variant-specific details matter. The product listing identifies a family model; it does not establish that every LM358-family device has identical behavior.

2. Identify the model declaration

Search the extracted text for the model’s declaration. LTspice’s third-party model guidance distinguishes a subcircuit from an intrinsic-device model because each is attached to a schematic differently. See Analog Devices’ LTspice How to: Importing Third-Party Models, dated September 9, 2025.

  • ALLECIN LM358P is a dual operational amplifier- Perfectly suitable for variety electronic experiments.
  • Wide supply voltage range: single supply (3-30V), dual supply (±1.5 to ±15V). Number of circuits: 2. Number of pins: 8.
  • Features: High gain & Frequency compensation.
  • Widely Application: sense amplifiers & dc gain blocks & all other single-supply op amps & all the conventional operational amplifier circuits.
  • Humanized packaging for easy storage and use. ### Please confirm the data before purchasing.
  • .SUBCKT: The file defines a multi-terminal circuit block. Use the subcircuit workflow below and match the symbol’s pins to the declared terminal order.
  • .MODEL: The file defines an intrinsic device model. Use the corresponding device-symbol workflow; do not apply the subcircuit-specific X prefix automatically.

3. Make the model available to the schematic

Choose whether to keep the model in a separate library file or embed its text in the schematic. In either case, use the model’s actual declaration name when assigning the component value. That name may differ from the library filename.

Approach Readability Sharing and path resolution When it fits
Separate library file Keeps a long model definition out of the schematic. Requires the referenced file to travel with the project or be available at a portable path. Useful when keeping the schematic uncluttered or reusing the model.
Embedded model text Places the model definition in the schematic, which can make the schematic longer. Makes the model text self-contained in the schematic file. Useful when you want to share one schematic without a separate model library.

For a separate library file

  1. Place the extracted model file in the schematic’s project folder.
  2. In LTspice, add a SPICE directive such as .LIB filename, replacing filename with the actual library filename.
  3. When assigning the component’s value, use the exact name declared after .SUBCKT or .MODEL, as appropriate—not merely the filename.

For model text embedded in the schematic

Add the model definition as a SPICE directive in the schematic, preserving its declaration and continuation lines. Assign the component value to the declaration name. This avoids a separate library-file reference, but makes the schematic contain the model text itself.

  • Number of amplifiers: 2
  • Package Type: DIP-8

4. Connect a .SUBCKT model to a symbol

For a subcircuit, the component symbol must call the subcircuit and present its terminals in the same order as the .SUBCKT declaration. An op-amp-shaped symbol is not necessarily a correct match: pin count and ordering both matter.

  1. Choose an existing symbol only if its pins and pin order suit the declaration. Open the symbol’s pin table and compare it, position by position, with the terminal list on the model’s .SUBCKT line.
  2. Set the symbol’s prefix to X, the usual prefix for a subcircuit instance.
  3. Set its value to the exact subcircuit name from the declaration, excluding the .SUBCKT keyword.
  4. If no suitable symbol exists, use LTspice’s subcircuit-to-symbol generation workflow to create one. Inspect the generated symbol’s pin mapping before using it, then save it with the model and schematic.

Do not guess the LM358 model’s subcircuit name or pin order: read both from the extracted file. A wrong mapping can connect supply, input, or output terminals incorrectly even when the drawing looks plausible.

5. Test the import and make the project portable

TI labels SNOM268C.ZIP as a PSpice model. The available product listing and LTspice guidance do not establish that this particular archive has been validated in LTspice XVII, so treat compatibility as something to check in your installation.

  1. Build a minimal test schematic using the model and intended symbol, with appropriate supply and input connections.
  2. Run the simulation and inspect LTspice’s error log if it fails. Resolve missing-file or declaration-name errors first, then check symbol prefix and pin mapping.
  3. When sharing the project, keep the .asc schematic, any custom .asy symbol, and the model library together. Avoid machine-specific hard-coded paths in symbol attributes so another user can resolve the referenced files.

A simulation that starts successfully confirms that LTspice can run that setup; it does not by itself prove that the model accurately represents every LM358-family variant or operating condition.
