To hide your public LinkedIn profile from search engines, turn off Your profile’s public visibility in LinkedIn’s public-profile settings. You can instead leave the public profile on and disable selected sections. Neither option makes your profile undiscoverable to people signed in to LinkedIn, and search results may take weeks or months to update.
Turn off your public LinkedIn profile
LinkedIn’s public-profile control determines whether the public version of your profile is eligible to appear to people who are not signed in and in search tools such as Google or Bing. LinkedIn’s Control your public LinkedIn profile help page gives these steps:
On desktop
- On LinkedIn, select Me, then View Profile.
- Select the edit icon next to Public profile & URL.
- In the public-profile settings, switch Your profile’s public visibility off.
In the mobile app
- Tap your profile photo, then tap Settings.
- Go to Visibility.
- Under Visibility of your profile & network, tap Edit your public profile.
- Switch Your profile’s public visibility off.
LinkedIn says changes are saved automatically. Menu names or locations can change, so follow the current labels in the app if they differ.
Choose whether to hide the whole public profile or only some sections
If you want a public profile but do not want certain information displayed publicly, leave public visibility on and turn off the individual sections you want to restrict in the same settings. The choice depends on whether you want the public profile as a whole to be eligible for display or only selected details to be omitted.

Expect a delay before search results change
Turning public visibility off does not guarantee that an existing Google or Bing result disappears immediately. LinkedIn says search engines may take several weeks or even months to detect and reflect profile changes, and LinkedIn does not control their refresh timing. If a search result remains incorrect, LinkedIn advises contacting the search tool directly. See LinkedIn’s public-profile guidance.
Know what this setting does not hide
Your profile from LinkedIn members
Turning off the public profile targets the version visible outside LinkedIn; it does not remove your account from LinkedIn’s own member search. Signed-in members can search for profiles using details such as a person’s name and company. LinkedIn explains these distinctions in Manage your profile’s visibility on and off LinkedIn.

Visibility through permitted off-LinkedIn services
LinkedIn has a separate Off-LinkedIn visibility setting for certain permitted services and integrations that may display profile information. LinkedIn says this setting does not limit the public profile shown through search tools, so it is not a substitute for turning off public-profile visibility. Details are in LinkedIn’s visibility guidance.
Lookup by email address or phone number
Email and phone discovery are controlled separately. Options may vary, and LinkedIn warns that permitted off-LinkedIn services may still discover someone by name and organization even when email or phone lookup is disabled. Review the relevant discovery settings if your concern is being found by contact information; changing them does not replace the public-profile setting. Your email address displayed on your profile
Email display is another separate control. LinkedIn says a registered primary email address is visible only to direct connections by default, and members can limit who sees it. There is also a separate control for whether the address is included in connections’ data exports. See Manage who can see your email address on LinkedIn.
