As of October 7, 2026, the practical options are to transfer an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME or trade with another player. Mewtwo does not normally appear in Paldea.
Can you still catch Mewtwo in Scarlet and Violet?
No—not through the special Tera Raid that originally brought Mewtwo to the games. The Pokémon Company’s “Face a Mighty Mewtwo!” announcement says Mewtwo cannot normally be encountered in Paldea.

The limited-time 7-star black-crystal raid ran from September 1, 2023, at 00:00 UTC through September 17, 2023, at 23:59 UTC. The event Mewtwo had a Psychic Tera Type and could be caught only once per save data. That event has ended.

Transfer an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME
If you already have Mewtwo in another compatible game or in Pokémon GO, Pokémon HOME may let you move it into Scarlet or Violet. HOME only moves Pokémon into games where they appear, and eligibility can depend on the individual Pokémon. Before transferring, open HOME’s Connected Games information and check Mewtwo’s compatibility with your destination game.

- Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
- Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
- Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
- Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.
The official Pokémon HOME guide explains that Pokémon can move among compatible games and directs players to the HOME app’s Help and Connected Games details for species-level information. Do not assume that every Mewtwo, regardless of its origin, can be sent to Scarlet or Violet.
Transfer a Mewtwo from Pokémon GO
If your Mewtwo is in Pokémon GO, you can link GO with HOME and use the transfer process described in Pokémon Support’s GO-to-HOME instructions. No paid Nintendo Switch Online membership or paid HOME Premium Plan is required for the GO-to-HOME transfer step.

Some Pokémon sent from GO have additional withdrawal conditions. For example, a species may need to be registered in the destination game’s Pokédex or obtained there already. Check Mewtwo’s Connected Games information in HOME before relying on this route.
Trade with another player
If you do not own an eligible Mewtwo, ask another player to trade one to you. Nintendo documents Link Trade and Surprise Trade in its Scarlet and Violet multiplayer guide. Surprise Trade is random, so it is not a dependable way to request a particular Pokémon; a direct Link Trade with someone who has Mewtwo is the more targeted option.

Online trading requires an internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. If you are with another player nearby, local wireless trading is available without online service.

The 2023 Mystery Gift password GETY0URMEW distributed Mew, not Mewtwo. Its redemption window ended September 18, 2023, so it is not a current method for getting either Pokémon. Nintendo’s August 2023 announcement describes the historical promotion and raid schedule.

Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
Could the Mewtwo raid return?
The original event announcement says Mewtwo may be featured in future events or become obtainable through other methods, but it gives no date or guarantee. The official 2026 comeback notice reviewed announces Dragonite for September 25 through October 1, not a Mewtwo raid. Check current Pokémon news and Poké Portal News for any new announcement rather than following old raid instructions.
To download current Poké Portal News in the game, go to Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Check Poké Portal News. This is useful for checking event availability, but it does not make the expired Mewtwo raid available again.
