To apply for a YouTube verification badge, your channel generally needs at least 100,000 subscribers, Google Account 2-Step Verification enabled, and a complete public profile. On a computer, a channel owner or manager applies in YouTube Studio under Settings → Channel → Verified badge → Apply. YouTube reviews the channel, so meeting the requirements does not guarantee approval.
What the YouTube verification badge means
The badge helps viewers identify the official channel for a creator, artist, company, or public figure when other channels have similar names. YouTube Help says, “Verified channels help distinguish official channels from other channels with similar names on YouTube.”
It is an identity distinction, not a reward or endorsement: the badge does not unlock extra YouTube features, mark an award or milestone, or mean YouTube endorses the channel. See YouTube Help: Verification badges on channels.

- At least 100,000 subscribers. This is the application threshold, not a promise that YouTube will approve the request.
- Google Account 2-Step Verification is on. It must be enabled for the Google Account associated with the channel.
- The channel profile is complete and public. It needs a banner image, profile picture, description, and at least one public video.
- You are the channel owner or a manager. A viewer or other channel user cannot submit the request on the channel’s behalf.
YouTube says it may sometimes proactively verify channels with fewer than 100,000 subscribers if they are well known outside YouTube. That is a discretionary exception, not a standard application route for smaller channels.
Apply in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio using the Google Account associated with the eligible channel.
- Open Settings → Channel → Verified badge.
- Select Apply and submit the request.
If the Verified badge tab is missing, YouTube says the channel is not eligible based on the 100,000-subscriber requirement. If you have just reached the threshold or turned on 2-Step Verification, allow a few days for the system to update. Also confirm you are signed in with the email address associated with the channel. The path and requirements are described in YouTube’s badge guidance.

Badge verification is not phone or feature verification
YouTube uses “verification” for separate processes. A phone code or advanced-feature check does not automatically grant the public-facing channel badge.
| Process | Purpose | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Channel verification badge | Distinguishes the official channel from similarly named channels. | Ordinarily requires 100,000 subscribers, 2-Step Verification, and a complete public profile; apply in YouTube Studio. YouTube Help. |
| Phone verification | Enables specified account features, including longer uploads, custom thumbnails, live streaming, and copyright-claim appeals. | Enter a code sent by text or voice call. This is a separate account-verification process. YouTube Help. |
| Advanced-feature access | Provides access to advanced features, not a badge. | First complete phone verification, then build sufficient channel history or, if YouTube offers the option, verify identity with ID or video. ID and video options are not available to everyone. YouTube Help. |
What happens if you change your channel name or handle?
Changing your channel name removes the badge, and the renamed channel must apply again. Changing the handle does not remove it. YouTube also reserves the right to revoke verification or terminate channels that violate its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. It will not verify channels that attempt to impersonate another creator or brand and may take further action if it finds deliberate impersonation.

If you are not eligible or someone is impersonating you
If you cannot apply yet, YouTube suggests making the channel easier to distinguish with a distinctive channel name or handle, a high-quality profile image, and customized channel branding. These steps can help viewers recognize the right channel, but they do not replace the badge requirements.
If another channel is impersonating you or your channel, report it to YouTube through its reporting process described in YouTube Help.
