The older frame.name() method is deprecated in the current API documentation and can return a creation-time value that does not reflect later attribute changes.
Read a frame’s current name or ID
For a Puppeteer Frame object, use its frame element and evaluate the element’s current properties:

console.log(nameOrId);frame.frameElement() returns the element associated with the frame. The callback passed to element.evaluate() runs against that element in the page, where el.name and el.id are DOM properties.
The expression el.name ?? el.id uses the ID only if the name is null or undefined. Since a DOM name is a string, an empty name remains an empty string rather than falling back. If you want an empty name to fall back to the ID, use el.name || el.id instead.

Find a frame by its current name or ID
page.frames() returns the frames attached to a page. Iterate through those frames, inspect each frame element, and compare the current name or ID with the value you are looking for:

console.log('Matched frame URL:', match.url());This compares the combined name-or-ID value. If you need to distinguish the two attributes—for example, to find a frame whose ID matches even when it has a different name—evaluate both properties and test them separately:

}The frame-element pattern is intended for child frames whose corresponding element is available. The cited Puppeteer guidance does not establish a general main-frame exception policy, so handle the main frame according to the behavior of the Puppeteer version installed in your project.
Why not use frame.name()?
The current Puppeteer API documentation marks Frame.name() as obsolete and recommends reading the frame element instead. It also says the method’s value is calculated when the frame is created and does not update if the attribute changes later. Reading el.name or el.id through the element accesses its current property value.

Deprecation guidance can change. Check the API documentation for the Puppeteer version used by your project if you are working against a different installed version.
Troubleshooting
The result is an empty string
The frame element may have an empty name. With el.name ?? el.id, that empty string is preserved; use el.name || el.id if an empty name should fall back to the ID.

No frame matches, even though one appears in the page
Confirm that the frame is attached when page.frames() runs, and compare the exact current name or ID. If attributes may be assigned or changed after navigation or script execution, inspect them after that change rather than relying on the obsolete creation-time frame.name() value.
frameElement() does not work for the frame you are inspecting
Confirm that you are handling a child frame with an available associated element. The cited guidance does not specify a universal main-frame policy; consult the documentation for your installed Puppeteer version for that case.
