Its Display Name help page specifically mentions Japanese-character display names as a beta feature and says additional character support is planned, but it does not confirm Chinese-character display names.
You can still test the regular display-name editor on your account. If Roblox accepts the Chinese text, it will appear as your display name; if the field rejects it, replaces it, or resets it, there is no documented setting, command, or script that officially unlocks Chinese characters.
How to try a Chinese display name on Roblox
Use the normal Change Display Name control. Display-name changes are free and are separate from username changes.
On a computer
- Sign in to Roblox.
- Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Open Settings, then select Account Info.
- Find Change Display Name. The control has a pencil-and-paper icon. Some accounts may show the field as Name instead.
- Enter the Chinese name you want to try.
- Select Save.
- Refresh the page and check whether the name shown on your profile differs from your username.
In the Roblox mobile app
- Open Roblox and sign in.
- Tap the three-dot More icon.
- Open Settings, then Account Info.
- Tap Change Display Name or the field labeled Name.
- Enter the desired Chinese text and tap Save.
- Reload your profile to verify the result.
Roblox allows a display-name change only once every seven days. The official documentation does not provide a way to bypass that cooldown, so test the spelling and characters carefully before saving.

What to expect if Roblox rejects the Chinese characters
A failed attempt does not necessarily mean that you used the wrong menu. Roblox’s current official documentation does not promise Chinese-character support for display names. Depending on the account, app version, or current platform rollout, the field may reject the text, filter it, leave the old name in place, or reset a noncompliant name.
Display names are continuously filtered. They must comply with Roblox’s Community Rules and Terms of Use. Roblox can replace a display name that violates its rules with the account’s username.
There is also no need to add numbers or English letters to make the display name unique. Display names do not have to be unique, so several players can use the same display name.

Chinese language settings do not unlock Chinese display names
Roblox supports Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional) as platform languages. That support relates to account and interface localization and automatic translations; it does not confirm that Chinese characters are accepted in the Display Name field.
You can change the account language in account settings, and an individual game may offer a language choice through its Game Language dropdown. Roblox’s official translation documentation does not say that either setting enables Chinese display names.

Do not use the username editor
A Roblox display name is the name shown to other players in places that support display names. A username is the unique identifier for the account.

Changing the username uses a different path:
Settings → Account Info → Change Username
That process requires your current Roblox password and ends with a Buy button because username changes cost Robux. Opening it while trying to set a free display name can lead you into a paid account change. Use Change Display Name instead.
Why the name may not look the same inside every game
Even if Roblox accepts Chinese characters as your account display name, an experience may not show them identically. By default, an in-game character’s name can match the account display name, but the experience developer can override or hide the humanoid name through the game’s code.

That means the following can all happen:
- Your profile shows the Chinese display name, but a particular game shows your username.
- A game replaces the name with a role, title, team label, or custom name.
- The name is hidden above the character entirely.
This is controlled by the experience, not by a Roblox command that you can enter as a player.

Practical troubleshooting
- Confirm the menu: make sure you opened Change Display Name, not Change Username.
- Refresh after saving: reload your profile or sign out and back in to check the saved result.
- Check the cooldown: if you changed your display name within the last seven days, Roblox may prevent another change.
- Try plain, rule-compliant text: filtering can reject or reset names that violate Roblox’s rules.
- Do not pay Robux: display-name changes are free. A screen asking you to buy the change is the username editor.
- Check more than one experience: a game can override the name displayed above your avatar.
Bottom line
There is no officially verified Roblox-wide method for forcing Chinese characters into a display name. The only supported test is the normal account-settings editor: Settings → Account Info → Change Display Name. If your account accepts the Chinese text, you can use it subject to Roblox filtering and the seven-day change limit. If it does not, changing the interface language, country, age-verification status, or using a command is not an officially documented workaround.

Can I get a Chinese display name on Roblox?
