To free up space on a Fire TV Stick, clear app caches, uninstall apps you no longer use, or selectively clear an app’s data. Start at Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Check available storage under My Fire TV or Device & Software; menu names vary by model and software version.
Check how much storage is available
- Open Settings.
- Look for My Fire TV or Device & Software, then check the available-storage information.
The exact menu label can differ between Fire TV devices and software experiences. Amazon documents the storage display in these settings areas, but does not publish a general estimate of how much space any cleanup action will recover. Amazon’s Fire TV Home Screen guidance describes the menu variation and storage location.
Clear cached files from apps
A cache contains app files that can be cleared without choosing the separate Clear Data control. To clear caches:
- Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- If shown, select Clear all Application Caches and confirm. Otherwise, choose an app and select Clear Cache. You can repeat this for other apps.
Amazon says that when the device is low on storage, it may automatically clear the cache of an app unused for more than 30 days. This happens in the background and cannot be turned off. Amazon’s instructions for clearing Fire TV app data and cache cover both manual cache clearing and this automatic behavior.

Clear app data only if you want to reset local app information
Clear Data is a different control from Clear Cache. Amazon lists it in the selected app’s management options. Clearing data can remove information or settings stored locally by that app, and the effect depends on the app. If you want to preserve its local state, choose Clear Cache instead; use Clear Data only when you are prepared for the app’s local information to be cleared. Amazon’s app data and cache guidance lists both options.
Uninstall apps you no longer use
- Open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select an app you no longer need and choose the uninstall option.
Uninstalling removes the app from the device; you will need to install it again if you want to use it later. Menu wording can differ, particularly on first-generation devices. Amazon’s Fire TV app-management documentation describes the management route and notes menu differences.

Know what each cleanup option does

What Auto Offload does—and who can use it
Auto Offload can remove apps unused for 60 days when the Fire TV device is low on storage. It requires an internet connection and is on by default on supported devices. To check or change it, open Settings > Applications > Auto Offload. An offloaded app must be downloaded again before you can use it; Amazon says login information and preferences are retained.
Amazon lists Kids profiles, Fire TV generations 1 and 2, Fire TV Stick generations 1 and 2, and Fire TV Stick Basic Edition as exclusions. Do not expect Auto Offload on those devices or profiles. See Amazon’s Auto Offload guidance for the eligibility and behavior details.

If the Fire TV Stick still reports low storage
- Return to the available-storage display under My Fire TV or Device & Software and check whether the available amount changed.
- Review Manage Installed Applications and uninstall apps you no longer use.
- Use Clear Data only for apps whose locally stored information you are willing to lose.
- If your device supports Auto Offload, confirm it is enabled and connected to the internet; it acts only when storage is low and an app meets its inactivity condition.
Amazon’s documented general remedies are these settings-based actions. Its cited guidance does not establish a USB drive, OTG adapter, restart, factory reset, or cache-cleaner app as a general fix for Fire TV Stick storage.
