Discord formats chat text with Markdown markers: type characters around text for styles such as bold or italics, or at the start of a line for headings, lists, and quotes. How to make text bold, italic, underlined, or crossed out
Bold
Put two asterisks on each side of the text: **this is bold**.

Italic
Put one asterisk or underscore on each side: *this is italic* or _this is italic_.
Strikethrough
Put two tildes on each side: ~~crossed-out text~~.
Underline and combined styles
Use two underscores on each side for underline: __underlined text__. To combine underline with another style, nest the markers as shown in the table—for example, __**bold and underlined**__.

How to add headings and subtext
Headings and subtext use markers at the beginning of a new line, followed by a space. They are line-oriented rather than markers wrapped around a phrase.

How to make lists, code, and block quotes
Lists
Start each list line with - or * for a bulleted list. To indent a list item, place two spaces before its list marker, as described in Discord’s guide.
Code
Wrap a short piece of code in one backtick on each side: `code`. For a multi-line code block, place triple backticks before and after the block: ```code```.

Block quotes
Start a line with > to quote a single line. Use >>> to mark multiple lines as a quote.
How to mark a Discord message as a spoiler
To hide text behind a spoiler treatment, wrap it in two vertical bars on each side: ||spoiler text||. Discord also documents applying spoilers by selecting text and choosing the eye icon, or by using the /spoiler command. On iOS, the spoiler guide says you can select text and choose “Mark as Spoiler” from the context menu.

Can you change the font in Discord?
If by “font” you mean bold, italics, underline, or strikethrough, use the Markdown markers above. Discord’s cited Markdown guide documents ways to style text, but it does not document a selector for choosing an arbitrary typeface. That distinction is specific to the formatting guide; it does not establish what every Discord setting or feature may offer.
