Two consecutive <div> elements normally appear on separate lines because each is a block-level box in normal horizontal flow. If they appear side by side, a CSS rule or the parent layout has changed that behavior. Check the elements’ computed styles, then use the fix that matches the layout context.
Restore normal block flow
In normal flow, display: block places a block box on its own line and makes the next block begin below it. Apply it to both elements, or to the selector they share:

display: block;
}
This works when the elements have been changed to inline or inline-block, or when another rule overrides their default styling. The div tag does not guarantee a visual arrangement after CSS changes; the computed display value determines how it participates in layout. When the parent is a flex container
If the parent has display: flex, its direct children are flex items. Flexbox defaults to a horizontal row, so two divs can sit next to each other even though each div would be block-level in normal flow. Set the parent’s direction to a column:

flex-direction: column places the flex items along the vertical block axis. If the parent already uses flexbox for other alignment needs, keep display: flex and change only the direction. The default row behavior and available direction values are documented in MDN’s flex-direction reference.
Check other rules that can place divs side by side
Use your browser’s developer tools: inspect each div, open the Computed styles panel, and inspect the parent as well. Look for these layout changes:

row(the default) rather thancolumn. - Grid parent: inspect the grid template columns, auto-placement, and explicit placement rules. Grid tracks—not block-flow line breaks—control where the children go.
- Floats: a
floatcan let later content wrap beside an element. Remove the float or clear it when that is the intended correction. - Positioning:
position: absoluteorfixedremoves an element from normal flow, so its location must be corrected through the positioning rules.
The original forum code is unavailable, so no single one of these causes can be identified as the cause of that specific example.

Adding <br> between divs may create a visible gap, but it is the wrong general solution. The br element represents a meaningful line break inside text, such as an address or poem; it is not a layout control. Use the parent’s flex or grid settings, or restore block display instead. See MDN’s br element reference.
