If the Hijri date appears in Samsung Calendar but not on your Galaxy lock screen, check for a separate Hijri option in Settings. The app’s alternate-calendar setting does not necessarily control the lock screen, and the lock-screen Calendar widget may show events rather than alternate date formats. Menus and feature availability vary by model, region, and One UI version.
1. Check for a separate Hijri setting in Lock screen
- Open Settings and search for Hijri. If that search finds nothing, search for lock screen.
- Inspect Lock screen or Lock screen and AOD for a Hijri calendar option, then enable it if available.
- Lock the phone and check the date on the screen. If the option is absent, do not assume your Calendar app setting is meant to add the Hijri date to the lock screen.
Samsung Community users have reported a dedicated Hijri control under Lock screen and AOD, but that does not establish that the option exists on every Galaxy. A separate Galaxy S23 FE case running One UI 8.0 received Samsung Members moderator guidance in March 2026 that Hijri was shown only in the Calendar app (Samsung Members). These reports describe different configurations, not a universal menu path.
2. Confirm Hijri is enabled in Samsung Calendar
- Open Samsung Calendar.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then open Settings and Calendar settings.
- Look for calendar type or display options and select an alternate calendar that includes Hijri, if offered.
Samsung Gulf lists Hijri as an alternate calendar type and cautions that older models may not support every type (Samsung Gulf: How to Add an Alternate Calendar on a Galaxy Phone). This changes Samsung Calendar’s display; it does not guarantee that the lock screen will show the alternate date.
3. Check what the lock-screen Calendar widget displays
If you added a Calendar widget and expected it to display the Hijri date, that may be the mismatch. Samsung Members moderator guidance says the lock-screen Calendar widget displays synced Samsung Calendar events, not dual calendar formats (Samsung Members discussion). A widget can be useful for event reminders, but enabling an alternate calendar in the app does not necessarily make the widget a Hijri date display.

4. Find the widget controls for your One UI version
Lock-screen widget settings have changed across One UI versions, so an older set of instructions may not match your phone. Samsung Australia documents lock-screen widgets on supported Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later (Samsung Australia: Adding Widgets to the Lock Screen). Samsung Korea says One UI 7 moved earlier lock-screen widgets into Brief widgets, and supported apps may change (Samsung Korea: One UI 7 lock-screen widget changes). Search Settings for lock-screen widgets or Brief widgets and use the controls available on your installed version.

If the Hijri option is missing
- Note your exact Galaxy model, country or region, and One UI version before looking for model-specific instructions.
- Check Calendar settings and lock-screen settings separately; one can offer Hijri while the other does not.
- Do not treat the absence of a menu as proof that a setting is merely hidden. Samsung’s published guidance warns that older devices may lack some alternate calendar types, and available reports do not provide a complete compatibility list.
Without the model, region, and One UI version, there is no guaranteed menu path. Samsung’s community guidance varies by device and date, so a user report should not be read as a promise for every Galaxy configuration.
