Find where the silence enters the audio chain before changing YouTube or encoder settings. Check the exact tracks and playlist transition, then listen to the encoder’s preview or a local recording. If the gap is present there, investigate the media, playback, routing, and encoder. If it is absent locally but viewers hear it on YouTube, check stream health and delivery conditions.
Identify when and where the silence happens
Write down the two track names and the approximate time of the gap. Note whether it is silence, a brief audio dropout, or buffering in the video player. Check whether it recurs at the same song boundary and whether multiple viewers on different internet connections report it. These observations narrow the possibilities, but none proves a cause by itself.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide recommends checking encoder output, routed sources, errors, CPU load, local recordings, and the outbound connection. Use that sequence to avoid changing delivery settings when the gap is already in the audio being sent.
Check the tracks and playlist transition
Listen to the exact source files
- Play the end of the outgoing track and the beginning of the next track in the same files used by the stream.
- Listen for silence, a long fade, a clipped ending, or a delay before the next track begins.
- If the pause is in a source file, replace or correct that file, then verify the revised version at the same point.
Inspect the player when the gap repeats at a boundary
If the files play continuously on their own but the stream pauses between them, examine how the playlist player loads and transitions tracks. Gapless playback can depend on advance buffering and media boundaries; compressed audio can also involve codec delay. The GStreamer documentation describes these considerations in its stream synchronizer guidance. The exact fix depends on the player and playback pipeline in use.

Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
If your playlist uses FFmpeg concat
The FFmpeg concat demuxer reads files in sequence and uses each file’s duration to position the next one. FFmpeg warns that an incorrect duration can cause artifacts, and requires the files to have the same streams, codecs, and time base. Check the actual media durations and local output at the transition before changing other settings. Concat does not guarantee gapless playback in every setup. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
Listen to the encoder output
Use the encoder preview and, if available, a local recording or archive of the outgoing stream. Compare the same track boundary you noted earlier.

- 6 channel standalone mixer (No USB)
- Featuring studio grade discrete class A D PRE preamps with inverted Darlington circuit: Providing fat, natural sounding bass and smooth, soaring highs
- 3 band EQ and high pass filters give you maximum control and eliminate unwanted noise, resulting in a cleaner mix
- 1 Knob compressors allow easy control: Resulting in livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare and a cleaner vocal sound.
- MG Series mixers feature a rugged, impact resistant, powder coated metal chassis
- The gap is in the preview or recording: Focus on the source files, playlist/player transition, audio routing, encoder errors, and CPU load. YouTube’s troubleshooting guide includes these checks because the problem is already present before YouTube delivery.
- The local output is clean: Check YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health information and compare it with reports from viewers. Then investigate the outbound connection if the symptoms point to delivery.
Make one targeted change at a time and recheck the same boundary. For a continuous broadcast, test the transition in a short controlled stream when practical before relying on the change for the full run.
Use viewer reports and stream health to diagnose delivery
YouTube’s guidance distinguishes problems limited to one viewer, viewers on the same network, and viewers on different networks. One viewer’s issue may be local to that viewer; reports from viewers on different connections can point toward an encoder-side issue. Treat these as diagnostic clues, not conclusive proof, and compare them with what the encoder preview and Live Control Room show.

OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide defines dropped frames as a connection problem between the computer and the ingest server: the connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. It recommends a wired connection when Wi-Fi instability is suspected. An Ethernet cable will not fix silence that is already present in a source file or local encoder output.
If viewers report buffering, OBS also advises checking for dropped frames and notes that lowering bitrate can sometimes better accommodate viewers with varying devices, locations, and internet connections. That is a delivery consideration, not a remedy for a gap audible in local output. See the OBS buffering guidance.

Do not change unrelated settings without a matching symptom
Bitrate changes, latency modes, HLS settings, sample-rate changes, or video keyframe settings are not universal fixes for silence between songs. Change them only when the stream-health evidence and the issue’s location support that branch of troubleshooting.

YouTube’s HLS setup guidance gives protocol-specific recommendations, including 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 Kbps stereo audio for HLS. Those values apply to HLS guidance; they do not establish that changing sample rate or switching protocols will cure a track-boundary gap. Confirm the ingest mode and any relevant dashboard warning before adjusting them.
