Check the log before changing settings

CcmSetup failed with error code 0x87d00227. - Look for the explicit metered-network message. If it appears, investigate metering policy. If another failure appears first, troubleshoot that condition instead of assuming the final code identifies the cause.

Verify whether a setup switch applies
Q&A responses mention the /AllowMetered setup switch. A Microsoft employee wrote in a 2020 discussion that the issue was addressed in Configuration Manager 2006 with a new ccmsetup switch. That is a historical statement, not confirmation of supported syntax for every current release or installation method. Before using a switch, check the official client installation properties documentation for the Configuration Manager version you have deployed and the method used to install the client.

If the log shows another failure
Do not apply a metered-network workaround just because the final code is 0x87d00227. If earlier lines show a name-resolution error such as ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, verify that the relevant host name resolves from the affected device and address that network issue. Use the first specific failure in the log to choose the troubleshooting path.
If this is a client reinstall
A Microsoft External Staff answer notes that a reinstall may pick up prior client configuration. Treat this as a possibility in that case, not a universal explanation. Check the existing configuration and follow current Microsoft guidance and your organization’s support procedures before removing client state or using cleanup tools.
