Roblox can fail on Windows 11 for several unrelated reasons: the wrong Roblox app may be installed, local client files may be corrupted, Windows may be missing media components, or security software may be blocking the launcher. Start with the restart and app checks below, then try graphics, networking, anti-cheat, and Windows repairs only when the symptoms point to them.
1. Restart Windows
Select Start > Power > Restart. A restart can close a Roblox process that is still running, complete a pending update, or release files locked by the installer.
Try Roblox again before changing other settings.
2. Check which Roblox app is installed
Windows has two Roblox installations:

Using both installations can cause launch and update conflicts. Your Roblox account, progress, Robux, friends, and inventory are tied to your account, not to a Windows installation.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Roblox – Windows.
- Install the result with that exact name.
- Open it and sign in.
- Confirm that a game launches.
Once the new app works, remove the old installation. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Roblox, select More options (…) > Uninstall. Remove obsolete Roblox installations, but keep Roblox – Windows.

If Microsoft Store will not open
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter wsreset.exe.
- Select OK.
Windows opens a blank Command Prompt window, clears the Store cache, and normally opens Microsoft Store automatically after approximately ten seconds. Try installing Roblox – Windows again.
3. Repair or reset Roblox – Windows
For the Microsoft Store version, Windows provides repair controls that are less disruptive than a complete reinstall.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Roblox – Windows.
- Select More options (…) > Advanced options.
- Select Terminate, if available.
- Select Repair, then try Roblox again.
- If Repair does not help, return to the same screen and select Reset.
Reset reinstalls the app’s data and may sign you out. Microsoft notes that Repair and Reset are not available for every app.
4. Perform a clean Roblox reinstall
Use a clean reinstall when Roblox opens and immediately closes, repeatedly asks you to install it, shows an endless Getting Latest Roblox message, reports that it cannot find Roblox, or crashes because local files are damaged.

Remove the traditional desktop version
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select Roblox.
- Choose Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
- Restart Windows.
Delete remaining local files
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter %localappdata% and press Enter.
- Delete the Roblox folder if it remains.
The standard folder is C:\Users\<Your Windows Username>\AppData\Local\Roblox. Delete only the Roblox folder, not other folders in AppData\Local.
Clear browser data
If you start Roblox from Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, clear the browser’s temporary internet files and cookies before reinstalling. Corrupt browser data can interfere with the launcher.
Reinstall from Microsoft Store using Roblox – Windows, or use the official Roblox website. Do not use modified clients, executors, third-party launchers, or unofficial packages; they can trigger anti-cheat restrictions and introduce unsafe files.

5. Update Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates with Download & install.
- Restart when prompted.
To check your Windows edition and system type, open Start > Settings > System > About. Windows 11 is 64-bit only, and Roblox supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11.
6. Check Roblox’s hardware requirements
Roblox’s current Windows requirements and recommendations include:
- 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Graphics hardware supporting DirectX feature level 10 or higher
- At least 1 GB of RAM recommended
- About 300 MB of free storage recommended for installation
- A supported browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge
Roblox also recommends a processor from approximately 2005 or newer running at 1.6 GHz or higher; some older AMD processors may have problems.
Check DirectX feature level
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter dxdiag and press Enter.
- Open the Display tab. If the PC has multiple GPUs, check Display 1 and Display 2.
- Find Feature Levels.
The list must include 10_0 or a higher feature level. If the graphics hardware does not support DirectX feature level 10, software troubleshooting cannot make that GPU compatible with Roblox.
7. Update the graphics driver
Update the driver from the graphics manufacturer’s website:

This is particularly important for errors such as Graphics failed to initialize, Graphics card is too old, distorted textures, unreadable text, or crashes during gameplay.
Disable compatibility mode
If Roblox reports that graphics hardware is outdated even though it meets the requirements:

- Right-click the Roblox or Roblox Studio executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties, then open the Compatibility tab.
- Clear Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Select Apply > OK.
Compatibility mode is not a general Roblox fix. Roblox recommends disabling it when it causes a false graphics compatibility warning.
8. Select the high-performance GPU
A laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics may assign Roblox to the power-saving GPU.
- Open Start > Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Find Roblox under Custom options for apps. Add it if necessary.
- Select Roblox and choose Options.
- Select High performance, then Save.
- Restart Roblox.
Windows may show Let Windows decide, Power saving, and High performance. Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is not a universal Roblox fix and may not appear on every system.
9. Install Media Feature Pack on Windows 11 N
Windows 11 N editions omit some media technologies. This can cause Failed to Load Library errors, including missing MFPlat.dll.
- Open Start > Settings > System > About and check Windows specifications for an edition containing N.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Optional features.
- Select View features and search for Media Feature Pack.
- Select it, choose Next, and install it.
- Restart Windows.
Install this package only on an N or KN edition. It is not a normal requirement for Windows 11 Home, Pro, or other non-N editions.
10. Check antivirus and firewall blocking
Security software may quarantine Roblox files or block its connection. Update the antivirus first, then check its quarantine and blocked-items lists. Restore a file only after verifying that it belongs to an official Roblox installation.

Connection and router checks
For Could Not Connect, ID=17 Failure, experiences that never load, or Play mode that fails while Build or Edit mode works:
- Allow Roblox through your firewall.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers, for testing.
- Test a wired connection or a different Wi-Fi network.
- Restart the router.
- Check whether the router or firewall blocks UDP traffic in the 49152–65535 range.
Roblox does not use one permanently fixed outgoing port; its client dynamically selects a free port. Blocking the relevant UDP range can still prevent experiences from connecting.
11. Find third-party software conflicts
Overlays, auto-clickers, monitoring tools, injectors, other game launchers, and modified Roblox software can interfere with Roblox or trigger messages such as Roblox was stopped. Please ensure third-party software does not interfere with Roblox.

Perform a clean boot
- Search Windows for msconfig and open System Configuration.
- Open the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled third-party startup items.
- Close Task Manager, select OK, and restart.
Test Roblox after the restart. If it works, re-enable services and startup items in groups until you identify the conflict.
To return to normal startup, open msconfig, select Normal startup on the General tab, clear Hide all Microsoft services on the Services tab, select Enable all, re-enable the startup items in Task Manager, and restart.
12. Turn off Windows debug mode
For Boot integrity compromised or messages claiming that critical system files are corrupt, check whether Windows is running in debug mode.
- Press Windows key + R, enter msconfig, and press Enter.
- Open the Boot tab and select Advanced options.
- Clear Debug.
- Select OK > Apply > OK.
- Restart Windows.
13. Repair damaged Windows system files
Run these commands for missing or damaged DLL errors, including Failed to Load Library, especially if other Windows applications are also malfunctioning.

- Search for Command Prompt, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run the following command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
After DISM completes successfully, run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after the scan, then test Roblox.

Contact Roblox Support after reinstalling the official app, updating Windows and graphics drivers, and testing without third-party software. Include the exact error message, whether you use Roblox – Windows or the desktop version, your Windows edition, and what happens when you select Play.
