First identify which problem you have: a download stuck in the queue, an installed game that will not launch, or a game showing a padlock or entitlement message. Queue steps can unstick a download, but they cannot restore access to a game your account is not entitled to play; license and subscription checks will not repair a stalled transfer.
Start with the symptom

If PlayStation reports a service alert, wait for service to recover before repeating downloads or license checks. Sony’s PS5 error-code list and its download and launch guides provide symptom-specific instructions.
If a PlayStation Plus game download won’t start
Recover the download queue
- On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads from the Control Center.
- Select the game and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it remains stuck, cancel and delete the download task. Find the game in Game Library and start the download again.

Check the service and console software
Check the live PlayStation status page before repeatedly restarting the same download. Also make sure the console’s system software is up to date. A network transfer problem and an account-entitlement problem need different fixes.

Use the exact error code
Do not assume every download error is a network failure. Sony lists PS5 CE-107928-7 as a game-download failure, NP-104291-7 as a failure to confirm content-license information, and CE-107255-0 as an inability to confirm a PlayStation Plus subscription. The code helps distinguish the next step; consult Sony’s PS5 error-code list.
For PS4 error WS-46332-8, which Sony describes as PlayStation Plus content being unable to download, Sony advises restarting the console, restoring licenses, powering the console off and restarting it after a few minutes, then contacting Support if the problem persists. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. If an installed game won’t start
Try the reversible checks first. Sony’s launch troubleshooting guidance covers both PS5 and PS4; follow the instructions for your console at PlayStation’s game-launch troubleshooting page.
Restart and restore licenses
- Restart the console and try launching the game again.
- Restore licenses using the path for your console below.
On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Sony says restoring licenses “won’t affect your data”; it can help when a game is locked, missing, or crashing. See Sony’s license-restoration guide.

Check storage, then update
If the PS5 game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage before continuing with Sony’s launch troubleshooting steps. On PS4, check that the USB extended-storage device holding the game is connected. Then check for a system software update.
Delete and download the game again
If restarting, license restoration, storage checks, and updating do not resolve the launch failure, delete the game and download it again. Sony suggests trying a wired connection for this redownload if possible. A wired connection is only a test for transfer or connection trouble; it does not fix missing game access or an inactive subscription.

Use Safe Mode only if basic checks fail
If the game still will not launch, use the Safe Mode steps in Sony’s launch guide. Sony’s sequence includes clearing the cache and rebuilding the database. Reinstalling system software is a later troubleshooting step, not an opening move; back up your data first. Sony also advises backing up before a system-software reinstall on PS4.

Confirm the account and entitlement
- Sign in to the account that obtained or claimed the game, where applicable.
- Check that the PlayStation Plus subscription is active if access depends on membership.
- If the game came from the Plus catalog, confirm it is still available there. A catalog game is not the same as a game purchased outright.
Sony’s catalog access guide explains how to access the catalog on PS5 and PS4. If the game is no longer available through the catalog or the relevant membership access has ended, repeating a download will not grant access.

Check console sharing if another account has access
If another household account is the one with the relevant membership or game access, check that the console is configured for sharing on that account. On PS5, the setting is Console Sharing and Offline Play; on PS4, the console must be activated as that account’s primary PS4. Sony says selected benefits, including monthly Plus downloads and catalog titles, may be shared depending on membership plan. Redeeming Plus games on another account and online storage are among the benefits it says cannot be shared. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus sharing guide.
When a network or license check still fails
For PS5 error CE-109258-5, Sony says the server connection may have failed and content-license information was not confirmed. Its steps include checking PlayStation status, restarting the console, restarting the router or modem after waiting at least five minutes, restoring licenses, and retrying later. Follow Sony’s CE-109258-5 instructions rather than applying network steps to every lock or download problem.
Contact PlayStation Support with useful details
If the relevant Sony troubleshooting steps do not solve the problem, record the exact error code or message, what you were doing when it appeared, and the steps that reproduce it. Include the time of the attempt and a screenshot or video if available. Sony’s download and launch guides advise providing these details when contacting PlayStation Support.
