Start with charge, Bluetooth, audio routing, and seating before you reset your Pixel Buds Pro 2. Those checks often identify whether the problem is the earbuds, the phone or computer, the streaming connection, or the charging case. Use the steps below in order; reset only after simpler fixes fail because it erases saved settings.
Fix connection problems and repeated Bluetooth dropouts
Check power, Bluetooth, and distance
- Make sure both earbuds and the case have charge. Keep the earbuds close to the phone, tablet, or computer.
- Confirm Bluetooth is on. Turn it off, wait several seconds, then turn it back on. If the earbuds do not reconnect, choose Pixel Buds Pro 2 from the host device’s Bluetooth list.
- Check that the host is routing sound to the earbuds rather than its speakers or another connected device.
Separate Bluetooth trouble from streaming trouble
Try another app or play content already downloaded to the device. If local audio works but streaming does not, the internet connection or app may be responsible rather than the Bluetooth link. A handoff between weak Wi-Fi and cellular data can also interrupt streaming.
Update firmware and reduce interference
Check for Pixel Buds firmware updates and keep the phone or Pixel Buds app current. On Pixel phones, the Quick Start Guide places firmware updates in Pixel Settings; on other Android devices, use the Pixel Buds app. A computer can use the web companion app. Menu labels may vary with software version.
If dropouts continue, move away from nearby devices that use the 2.4 GHz band, such as wireless routers, speakers, baby monitors, and microwave ovens. Reduce obstacles between the host device and earbuds where practical.

Forget and pair the earbuds again
- Remove or forget Pixel Buds Pro 2 in the host device’s Bluetooth settings, then restart the host.
- With both earbuds in the case, open the lid and hold the case pairing button until the light blinks.
- On a Pixel or other Android phone, follow the on-screen pairing prompt. On a computer, select the earbuds in its Bluetooth interface.
This pairing action is different from a reset: do not hold the button for 30 seconds unless you are following the reset procedure below.
Fix missing, quiet, or one-sided audio
Check the host, app, and charge
- Confirm the earbuds are selected as the audio output and that the device and app volume are audible.
- Check that both earbuds have charge. Some apps do not use earbud touch controls, so adjust playback in the app or on the host when needed.
- Install available firmware updates. For intermittent audio, place both earbuds in the case for one minute, then try playback again.
- Keep the host device nearby and test downloaded or other-app audio to distinguish a wireless link issue from streaming trouble.
Check fit and clean gently
If one side sounds quieter or bass is weak, check that the ear tips seal comfortably, try another included tip size if needed, and inspect the mesh for debris. Gently brush mesh areas; do not insert pins, swabs, or other objects into speaker or microphone openings. A poor seal, debris, or equalizer settings can all affect perceived bass.
Try another noise-control mode for calls
In a noisy environment, Transparency mode may interfere with call clarity. Try a different ANC mode and check whether the caller can hear you more clearly.

Diagnose charging problems using the case light
Seat each earbud correctly
Place the left and right earbuds in their marked positions and rotate each until the case magnet holds it in place. Google says a chime indicates correct insertion on Pixel Buds Pro 2.
With the lid open, the earbud status light indicates charge state:
- Solid white: the earbuds are fully charged.
- Breathing white: one or both earbuds are charging while the case has more than 20% charge.
- Slow orange: some earbud charge remains while the case is below 20%.
With the case closed, the front light reports case status. When the case is plugged in, a breathing white light indicates that the case is charging. If no light appears, the case may not have enough battery to charge the earbuds.

- Google Pixel Buds 2a deliver lightweight comfort, crisp audio, Active Noise Cancellation, and a dependable battery, all for less[1]
- Hear only what you want to hear; Google Tensor A1 powers Active Noise Cancellation with Silent Seal 1.5 to help block external noise; or switch to Transparency mode to hear the world around you while you listen

- Pixel Buds 2a are built for lightweight comfort and an impeccable fit; secure them during workouts or commutes with the twist-to-adjust stabilizer, or twist the other direction for relaxed comfort
- Hear and be heard with Clear Calling; it helps block background noise, so wind, external chatter, or other distractions in your environment won’t interrupt your conversations[2]
Try a compatible charging method
| Method | How to use it | What it helps check |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C | Connect the case using a known-good USB-C cable and compatible power source. The lid may be open or closed. | Tests the cable, USB-C port, and power source together. |
| Qi-certified wireless charging | Place the case on a Qi-certified charger. | Provides an alternate charging path if USB-C charging is failing. |
Before charging, make sure the case port and connectors are dry and clear. Use compatible USB-C PD-compliant or Google-authorized charging equipment; an incompatible charger can create damage or safety risks. If the case still will not charge after checking seating and testing a known-good compatible power source or Qi charger, contact Google support rather than buying an unverified accessory.

A reset removes saved settings, including the device name and preferences. It also is required to transfer ownership of previously owned or refurbished Pixel Buds Pro 2 and enable Find Hub tracking.
- On the host device, forget Pixel Buds Pro 2 in Bluetooth settings.
- Put both earbuds in the case, connect the case to power, and leave the lid open.
- Hold the button on the back of the case for 30 seconds.
- Release it when the status light stops bouncing and turns off. The light blinks orange and white during reset, then bounces white when the earbuds are ready to pair.
Both earbuds must be seated correctly or the reset will not begin. Google’s pairing instructions state: “If buds aren’t placed correctly in the charging case, the reset process won’t begin.”

Know what battery life to expect
Google lists up to 8 hours of listening from the earbuds with ANC on, or up to 12 hours with ANC off. With the charging case, Google lists up to 30 hours total with ANC on and up to 48 hours with ANC off. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results; actual battery life depends on use and enabled features, so a shorter result by itself does not prove a defect.
When to contact Google support
If the connection, audio, or charging issue persists after the relevant checks and reset, use Google Pixel Buds customer support or its official lost-or-damaged replacement route. Available service, replacement options, and warranty terms depend on region and current terms.
