Start by checking PlayStation Network service status, then run the PS5 connection test. Restart the console and router, and compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi if you can. These checks help distinguish a service outage from a problem with your home network, wireless signal, or console setup.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
Check PlayStation Network service status before changing settings on your router. PlayStation’s error guidance advises checking for outages or maintenance. If a service is unavailable, wait and try again after it is restored; changing local network settings is unlikely to fix a service-side problem.
2. Test the connection and restart your equipment
On the PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Menu wording can vary by software version. Note whether the console connects to the internet and PlayStation Network, and whether the test reports a specific failure.
- Restart the PS5.
- Turn off the router and, if your setup has a separate modem, turn that off too.
- Wait at least five minutes before turning the network equipment back on.
- Wait for the modem and router to reconnect, then run the PS5 connection test again.
These are troubleshooting steps recommended by PlayStation, not a guarantee that the connection will remain fixed. If the issue is a lost connection to a server, PlayStation also suggests signing in again and reconfiguring the network if needed.

3. Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi
If you can, connect the PS5 to the router with a LAN cable and see whether the connection still drops. PlayStation recommends a wired connection where possible. Comparing the two connections is a practical way to narrow down the cause, though PlayStation does not prescribe it as a formal test protocol.
- Ethernet works, but Wi-Fi drops: Focus on wireless signal and placement. Move the PS5 closer to the router and reduce obstructions between them where feasible.
- Both connections fail: The cause may be elsewhere, such as a service issue, router or ISP problem, or console network configuration.
- Other devices also have trouble: Check the router and internet service, or contact your ISP.
A LAN cable is useful for this check only if you can connect the PS5 to the router. A wired connection will not resolve a PlayStation service outage or an ISP problem.

4. Verify the network setup
Reconnect to Wi-Fi
Check that you selected the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID), entered its password correctly, and are using a security method supported by your network. On the PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, choose the saved network, and connect.
Set up a wired LAN connection
Connect a LAN cable between the PS5 and router, then go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect.

Check IPv6 compatibility
PlayStation Support states: “PS5 consoles support IPv6 network connections but do not support IPv6-only network connections.” If your router is configured for IPv6 only, it needs to be changed to provide IPv4 as well. Ask your router manufacturer or ISP for instructions specific to your equipment.
5. Use the exact error code to choose the next step
PS5 network errors do not all indicate the same cause. Look up the full error code in PlayStation’s support guidance rather than applying a fix intended for a different error. PlayStation’s error index includes messages about being unable to connect to a server, a connection timing out, maintenance, and failure to connect to the internet. Some refer to service-side conditions; others describe general connectivity problems.

6. Contact your ISP or network administrator before advanced changes
PlayStation lists advanced connection settings such as IP address, DHCP host name, DNS, MTU, and proxy. Multi-Link Operation is also available on supported PS5 Pro setups. If you are unfamiliar with these settings, PlayStation advises asking your ISP or network administrator before changing them.
For the specific error NW-102650-4, PlayStation says that updating router firmware, opening specified ports, setting a static IP, or temporarily changing DNS may help. Those suggestions are tied to that error page; they are not universal fixes for every PS5 network problem. Ask your ISP or network administrator before changing port forwarding, IP addressing, or DNS, especially on a shared, workplace, or managed network.

- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479, 49152–65535
Use the instructions for your router and check with your ISP before applying port changes. Router firmware should be updated using the router vendor’s instructions or with help from your ISP or network administrator.
