Fastest fix: match the mod and Forge setup
- Copy the complete error. Note the named mod JAR and both JavaFML versions.
- Check the mod’s supported versions. Look at its download page or metadata for the exact Minecraft release and Forge requirement.
- Verify the active profile. Confirm which Minecraft and Forge versions the launcher actually started, rather than relying on a different selected or edited profile.
- Choose one consistent fix. Install the Forge release for the intended mod build, or replace the mod with a build made for the Minecraft and Forge versions already installed.
- Restart the same profile. If the error persists, check the logs and verify that the intended profile and its dependencies actually launched.
Download Forge from the official Forge downloads page. Choose a release for the Minecraft version required by the mod or modpack; do not simply select the newest release.

Record the Minecraft version, Forge version, complete failing JAR filename, and relevant error lines. Forge support also recommends providing launcher_log.txt if neither the debug log nor a crash report records the failure.

- Open the instance’s logs or crash-reports location.
- Search for the named mod JAR and the JavaFML error text.
- Confirm that the log belongs to the profile you intended to launch.
- Share the relevant log and version details when asking for support.
If you are developing a Forge mod
Check the declared loaderVersion in META-INF/mods.toml, the Gradle dependencies and MDK configuration, and the development run configuration. Keep these settings consistent: changing only the displayed Minecraft version may not update the actual development runtime.
Should you update Java?
Not as the first fix just because the error contains the word “Java.” The researched support examples point to a loader/version mismatch. If the logs separately report a Java runtime problem, check the official documentation for the specific Minecraft and Forge versions in use and address that issue independently.

- Installing a language pack: this error concerns mod loading, not Minecraft translations.
