If Metro Redux crashes, stutters, or will not launch on PC, first identify which game is affected—Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux—and when the failure occurs. Then check the game files and updates, graphics settings, drivers, cooling, and background apps before trying more disruptive steps. These checks are low-risk, but there is no single verified fix for every symptom.
First, pinpoint the problem
“Metro Redux” refers to two separate PC games, and a crash before the title screen calls for a different investigation than stuttering during play. Before changing settings, note the details below; they will also help if you need to contact support.
- Game: Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux.

Check the PC against the game’s listed requirements
Steam’s Metro 2033 Redux listing gives the following Windows requirements. They are legacy listing values, not a promise of smooth performance on every current PC.

The same Steam page separately states that, starting January 1, 2024, the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later. That is a client operating-system policy; it is distinct from the game’s older listed requirements. If you are on an older Windows version, consider both statements when diagnosing a Steam launch problem.
Try low-risk checks first
PLAION’s basic crash and freeze troubleshooting guide recommends checking system requirements, updating relevant drivers and the game, checking cooling, closing background applications, and lowering graphics settings. It is general advice that may vary by game and platform, rather than a Metro Redux-specific fix; the support page also notes that the article is machine-translated.

- Update the game and relevant drivers. Check for available game updates in the launcher you use, and update graphics, audio, and other relevant drivers through the appropriate source for your hardware.
- Check cooling and close background apps. Confirm the PC is adequately cooled and close unnecessary applications that may be using system resources.
- Reduce graphics settings. If the game launches but runs poorly or stutters, lower its graphics settings and see whether the symptom changes.
- Verify files if you use Steam. In Steam Library, open the game’s Properties and go to Installed Files to find the integrity-verification option. Menu wording may change. Let the check finish, then relaunch and note whether the problem changes.
If the game still crashes or freezes after these checks, PLAION’s general guidance suggests reinstalling and then contacting support. Try reversible checks first; reinstall only after verification and other low-risk steps have not helped.
If the failure happens in one chapter or around connected devices
A Steam Community post about Last Light Redux suggests restarting the chapter, checking background downloads, verifying files, adjusting NVIDIA Control Panel settings, trying administrator or compatibility settings, and testing connected devices. Those are one player’s suggestions, not publisher-approved fixes or guarantees.

If you choose to test one of these ideas, change only one thing at a time and restore the original setting if it makes no difference. For a device test, temporarily disconnect a peripheral and relaunch; do not assume that buying or replacing a headset, monitor, controller, or graphics card will fix a launch problem. For compatibility settings or graphics-control options, record the original values so you can undo the change.

If the problem persists, send the relevant storefront or publisher support team a concise report with the game title, launcher, Windows and driver versions, PC hardware, point of failure, steps already tried, and any error text. Steam’s listing links to Steam Support and community resources. For an Epic Games Store installation, use the launcher’s own verification and support instructions; exact Epic menu steps are not established here.

An older Metro 2033 Redux community discussion mentions bypassing intro videos, but it does not provide verifiable instructions here, and no current official source confirms that workaround. Avoid replacing game files or following unverified video-bypass instructions; ask support about your specific game version instead.

What to avoid assuming
- A PC that meets the listed minimum requirements is not guaranteed to run smoothly; the listing is not a diagnosis of a particular crash or stutter.
- A suggested community workaround is not evidence that it will fix the same symptom on another PC.
