If iPhone haptics are missing, check the setting that matches what you feel (or don’t): global vibration, System Haptics, keyboard feedback, or alerts each have separate controls. Start with Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Vibration, then check the relevant feature below. Menu names can vary by iOS version or language; use Settings search if a label differs.
First, identify what is not vibrating
Apple describes haptic feedback as the vibration you feel during some actions, such as touching and holding a Home Screen icon. Missing keyboard taps, system interactions, and calls or notifications can have different causes because they use different settings.
- Keyboard: no tactile response while typing.
- System interactions: no haptics for system controls or actions.
- Calls or alerts: no vibration for incoming calls or notifications, especially in Silent Mode.
- All vibration: no vibration for any feature.
Check the global Vibration setting
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Vibration and turn Vibration on if it is off. This setting can suppress vibration across the iPhone, including keyboard and alert feedback. Apple warns that turning it off also disables vibration for earthquake, tsunami, and other emergency alerts: Turn off vibration on iPhone.
Turn on System Haptics for system interactions
Open Settings > Sounds & Haptics and make sure System Haptics is on. This controls haptics for system controls and interactions; it is separate from the keyboard and alert settings. See Apple’s Change iPhone sounds and vibrations.

Fix missing keyboard haptics
- Open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback.
- Turn on Haptic.
- If Haptic is already on but typing still feels silent, check that Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Vibration is on.
Apple notes that keyboard haptics may affect battery life. Its instructions apply to iOS 16 or later: Use the keyboard on your iPhone.
Check calls and alerts that are missing in Silent Mode
If calls or notifications do not vibrate when Silent Mode is on, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Haptics and select Play in Silent Mode. Also open Control Center > Focus and check whether Do Not Disturb is active. Do Not Disturb is a possible factor to check, not a setting Apple says always disables vibration. Apple’s Silent Mode guidance was published in its Ireland support locale on July 27, 2026: If your iPhone doesn’t vibrate in Silent Mode.

Set the vibration pattern for one alert type
If other alerts vibrate but one category does not, inspect that category in Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Choose its Haptics pattern; Apple allows a pattern to be selected or created for sound categories. This is different from System Haptics, which controls system interactions. Find the relevant sound category in Apple’s sounds and vibrations guide.
Adjust Haptic Touch if touch-and-hold feels different
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch and test Fast or Slow. This changes how quickly touch-and-hold actions respond; Apple does not describe it as a master switch for all vibration. See Adjust how iPhone responds to your touch.

When settings do not restore haptics
If haptics remain absent across the features whose settings you checked, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for diagnosis. The settings guidance does not establish whether a particular iPhone has a hardware fault or identify a repair part, so get a device-specific assessment before pursuing a repair.
