If Browserless screenshots are missing images, first distinguish images that have not finished loading from images that have not been triggered to load, requests that are being blocked, and a target page that did not render normally. For BAP, enable waitForImages: true; for below-the-fold lazy images, scroll through the page before capture. The REST Screenshot API uses its own options, including scrollPage: true, so check which Browserless interface you are calling.
Identify why images are missing
A screenshot can be taken before image requests finish, before lazy-loaded images are requested, or after the target site has returned an error or blocked automation. The final image alone does not reveal which happened. Browserless also cautions that an HTTP 200 response can still contain an error page from the target site. Browserless’s screenshot documentation and unblocking guidance describe these cases.
- Images appear after waiting: the capture was early.
- Images appear after scrolling: the page likely loads them only when they approach the viewport.
- Images never appear: check failed requests, request filters, target-site errors, or automation blocking.
Choose the right wait condition
Waiting for navigation and waiting for images are separate tasks. Browserless BAP’s waitForImages option defaults to false. Set it to true when the capture should wait for all page images. If only one image matters, waiting for that image or its container with waitForSelector() can be more targeted. See BAP screenshots and PDFs and the waiting guide.
The REST Screenshot API also has navigation wait conditions. They are not interchangeable:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Condition | What it waits for | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
domcontentloaded |
The initial HTML has been parsed; it does not wait for images, stylesheets, or subframes. | Fast capture when the page’s required content is already available, but not as proof that images finished loading. |
load |
Dependent resources, including images. | When the capture should wait for the page’s resource load event. |
networkidle0 |
Zero network connections for at least 500 ms. | When the page becomes quiet and does not keep requests open. |
networkidle2 |
Up to two network connections for at least 500 ms. | When a page has some continuing network activity. |
Network-idle states measure network activity, not whether a particular image is visibly rendered. A page with recurring background requests may also make idle-based waits unsuitable. Refer to REST Screenshot API request configuration for the interface-specific settings.
Trigger lazy-loaded images before a full-page capture
Lazy loading commonly defers requests until an image approaches the viewport. A full-page screenshot does not necessarily trigger every image merely by extending the captured area. Scroll through the page first, then capture the full document. Browserless BAP guidance uses scroll({ throughPage: true }); the REST Screenshot API provides scrollPage: true. These names belong to different interfaces; do not copy options across APIs without checking their documentation.

BAP example
In BAP, configure image waiting on the screenshot and scroll the page before capture. The following illustrates the relevant BAP settings; keep the call shape and imports aligned with the BAP version and setup you use:
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'load' });
await page.screenshot({
fullPage: true,
waitForImages: true
});
For below-the-fold content, use BAP’s scrolling method before the screenshot:

{
"url": "https://example.com",
"options": {
"fullPage": true,
"scrollPage": true,
"waitUntil": "load"
}
}
Use waitUntil: "load" when dependent resources should finish loading; use a more targeted selector wait if one specific image is the requirement. Browserless documents scrollPage for triggering lazy-loaded content in the REST screenshot flow.
Check whether the image request or target page failed
Inspect request filters
Review rejectResourceTypes and rejectRequestPattern in your request configuration. Browserless allows callers to reject image resources, and a filter matching an image host can prevent the request even when the page itself loads normally. Remove or narrow the applicable rule, then capture again. See request configuration.

Inspect the rendered page for blocking or errors
Check whether the screenshot contains a CAPTCHA, access-denied or 403 message, blank page, or other incomplete/error content. A successful HTTP status alone does not establish that the intended page was delivered. Browserless documents /unblock for bot-detection scenarios; use the relevant unblock documentation rather than treating a longer wait as a guaranteed fix.
Troubleshoot in a reliable order
- Verify the page and viewport. Open the same URL in a browser at the capture viewport. Confirm the expected images exist and note whether they are initially visible or below the fold.
- Wait for the right thing. In BAP, enable
waitForImages: truefor all images or wait for the specific image/container selector. In REST, select an appropriate navigation condition; do not treatdomcontentloadedas image completion. - Trigger deferred loading. Scroll through the page with BAP’s
scroll({ throughPage: true })or REST’sscrollPage: true, then request a full-page capture if the whole document is required. - Check image requests and filters. Look for image-host failures and rules rejecting image resource types or matching the host.
- Check for target-site blocking. Look for CAPTCHA, 403/access denied, blank, or error content; if present, investigate the target response and Browserless’s documented unblocking option.
- Investigate timeouts last. BAP’s screenshot reference lists a default screenshot timeout of 30 seconds. A timeout warrants checking page and image response state; merely extending it may not address the cause. Confirm current defaults in the BAP reference.
Or skip the browser setup
If you want a screenshot without configuring a browser wait-and-scroll flow, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-call API request returns an image or PDF; this cURL example saves a WebP screenshot:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners and consent prompts, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot automatically load every lazy image?
No. Content triggered by entering the viewport may need a page scroll before the full-page capture.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Should I use BAP’s waitForImages setting with the REST screenshot endpoint?
No. BAP and REST use different option names and request structures; use the documentation for the interface you are calling.
