If a HomeKit accessory shows “No Response” in the Home app, first check whether the problem affects one manufacturer or several. A single-maker failure often points to that accessory, its bridge, or its manufacturer app; failures across makers call for broader checks of Wi-Fi, Apple devices, and home hubs. Follow the relevant steps below and check the Home app after each one.
First, identify which accessories are affected
Check whether every unresponsive accessory comes from the same manufacturer. If so, start with that maker’s devices and any bridge they use. If accessories from several manufacturers have stopped responding, focus on the shared network and Apple Home setup.
Apple’s guidance applies to HomeKit and Matter accessories in the Home app. Its article on unresponsive accessories was published March 3, 2026: If your HomeKit or Matter accessory isn’t responding in the Home app.
If only one manufacturer’s accessories show “No Response”
- Check Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac you use with the Home app. Check the Home app to see whether the accessories respond.
- Restart the affected accessories. If an accessory uses batteries, remove and reinsert them. Then check the Home app again.
- Check the manufacturer’s app. Look for a firmware update and test whether the accessory responds in that app. If it fails there too, the manufacturer may require you to reset it.
- Restart any third-party bridge and your home hubs. Unplug each device, reconnect it, and check the Home app after it has restarted.
For third-party Thread accessories
Disconnect the accessory from power for 5 minutes, reconnect it, then allow 10 minutes for the Thread network to stabilize before checking it in the Home app. These are Apple’s procedural intervals, not estimates of how long every device takes to recover.

It integrates third-party devices into the Aqara Home app. Supports advanced Matter bridge functionality, enabling Aqara-exclusive scenes and signals to sync with Matter ecosystems such as Home Assistant for seamless integration. Supports up to 127 Aqara Zigbee devices (** Not third-party Zigbee devices) and 127 Thread devices (Repeaters are needed).
- [Edge Compatibilities and Local Automations] The M3 serves as an Edge Hub, prioritizing local control and automation. Upon integration, it supersedes existing Aqara hubs, shifting the automations among them to local operation (Some cloud-based notifications still require internet). Upgrade-friendly, it supports migrating Zigbee devices from older Aqara hubs.
- [Smart IR Blaster with Feedback and Learning] The 360°IR blaster not only sends commands but also provides accurate status updates by detecting traditional remote use. It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)
- [Optimal Wired and Wireless Connectivity] Offering both wired and wireless solutions, the smart home hub M3 provides dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) with advanced WPA3 security, and a Power over Ethernet (PoE) port. The addition of a USB-C port allows for mini-UPS and power bank connections, delivering unparalleled stability. (2A USB power adapter is not included. ) . Note: To ensure a stable connection, place the Hub M3 between 6 to 19 feet from the router.
- [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.
If the accessory still does not respond
As a later step, remove it from the Home app—or from the manufacturer’s app if needed—then follow the manufacturer’s reset instructions and add the accessory again. Removal and reset mean setting it up again. If it still does not respond, contact the accessory manufacturer.
If accessories from several manufacturers show “No Response”
- Update the Apple device you use with the Home app, then close and reopen the Home app.
- Check the network. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the same Wi-Fi network as the accessories, and make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Restart the affected accessories and check their manufacturer apps for firmware updates. If any are third-party Thread accessories, disconnect each from power for 5 minutes, reconnect it, and allow 10 minutes for the Thread network to stabilize.
- Restart the shared network and Home equipment. Restart the modem and router, third-party bridges, all home hubs, the affected accessories, and the iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Check the Home app after the devices have restarted.
- Check VPN or third-party security software. Either can interfere with connectivity; check whether the problem changes when the relevant software or settings are addressed.
If several manufacturers’ accessories remain unresponsive after these checks, contact Apple Support.

If you see “Home Hub Required” or “Software Update Required”
These messages point to a home-hub setup or software issue, which is different from an accessory that also fails in its manufacturer’s app. Apple’s guidance for these errors was published September 24, 2025: If you see a ‘Software Update Required’ or a ‘Home Hub Required’ error message on your iPhone or iPad.

“Home Hub Required”
Remote control requires a home hub. Apple names HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home hubs, and says iPad is not supported as a home hub on the latest version of Apple Home. If you already have a hub configured, try these checks:
- Power-cycle the active hub by unplugging it and reconnecting it.
- Try setting up the hub from an iPhone or iPad signed in to the Apple Account used for the home.
- Check that the devices are connected to Wi-Fi and consider interference, network settings, VPNs, or third-party security software.
- If an Apple TV is connected by Ethernet, connect it to Wi-Fi on the same network as the iPhone or iPad for this setup issue.
Do you need to buy a home hub?
Only consider one if you need remote control and do not already have an eligible hub, or if you are resolving a hub-specific error. Apple says, “To control your accessories remotely, you must set up a home hub.” HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV are options Apple identifies; its guidance does not compare their performance or prices.
