If suggested content is missing in Google Messages, first check Suggested actions at More options → Suggestions in chat → Suggested actions. Google also describes a separate feature called Gemini suggestions, while its reviewed help pages do not document a dedicated games feature or games setting in Messages.
Check whether Suggested actions are turned on
- Open Google Messages.
- Tap More options, then Suggestions in chat.
- Check Suggested actions. If it is off, turn it on and see whether action suggestions appear.
Google says Suggested actions are on by default unless you turn them off. They can include options such as creating a calendar invite, attaching a recent photo, starting a Meet call, sharing your location, or searching for GIFs. Google does not promise that every action will appear in every conversation. Google Messages Help: Use Suggested actions in Google Messages.
Could the missing item be a Gemini suggestion?
Gemini suggestions are different from Suggested actions and are not controlled by the Suggested actions switch. Google says these topic suggestions can be based on recent chats and may cover subjects such as movies or restaurants. Tapping one asks Gemini to search for the suggested term and can return a shareable result card. Google Messages Help: Your chats stay private with Gemini in Google Messages.
Google describes two privacy stages: the suggestion is created using technology built into the device, and the conversation itself is not sent to Gemini or Google servers for this feature. If you tap a suggestion, the search term is sent to Gemini.

What kind of suggestion is missing?
| Feature | What it may show | What happens when tapped | Control documented by Google |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suggested actions | Utility actions such as calendar invites, photo attachments, Meet calls, location sharing, or GIF search | Starts or helps with the suggested action | More options → Suggestions in chat → Suggested actions |
| Gemini suggestions | Topics or information suggestions based on recent chats | Asks Gemini to search the suggested term and may produce a shareable card | No Suggested actions switch; Google describes this as a separate feature |
Google’s help pages do not say that either type must appear in every conversation, and they do not explain every trigger that determines when an individual suggestion appears. If the setting is already on but a suggestion is absent, the documented guidance does not establish a cache-clearing, reset, or reinstall step as a fix.
Are games supposed to appear in Google Messages?
The Google help pages reviewed describe Suggested actions and Gemini suggestions, but do not document a dedicated games feature in Messages, its eligibility requirements, or a games-specific setting. That does not establish that games have never appeared in any experiment, region, or app version; it means the reviewed official guidance offers no games control to enable.

When general message troubleshooting is relevant
If you also cannot send or receive messages, troubleshoot that separate problem. Google’s general guidance includes updating Messages, checking that it is the default texting app, checking signal and connectivity, and confirming carrier support. Those checks address message delivery and connection problems; Google does not identify them as fixes for missing suggestion cards when messaging otherwise works. Google Messages Help: Fix problems sending, receiving, or connecting to Google Messages.
If your menus do not match the documented path, app version or feature availability may be a factor, but Google’s cited guidance does not specify a more precise cause. No phone replacement, accessory, or repair tool is part of the documented remedy.
