If the Cube can’t connect to Wi-Fi or videos buffer, run Network Diagnostics, restart the Cube and home network, then try the fix that matches the affected app or video. Save a factory reset for last: it erases device setup and may require you to configure the Cube again.
If the Fire TV Cube remote isn’t working or responding
Check the batteries and remote indicator
Replace weak batteries with fresh AAA alkaline batteries; Amazon recommends alkaline batteries for best performance. Some compatible remotes have a troubleshooting mode, but not every model has an LED or supports the feature.
- Hold Rewind and Right together for three seconds.
- Press Menu to activate troubleshooting mode.
- Press a remote button and check the LED response: slow red indicates low battery, fast red indicates a remote problem, orange indicates the remote is unpaired, white prompts you to check that the Fire TV device is on, and blue indicates no remote issue and suggests restarting the Fire TV device.

Retry pairing before resetting the remote
For initial pairing, place the remote within 10 feet (3 m) of the Cube and hold Home until the on-screen pairing prompt appears, which takes about 10 seconds.

- If pairing does not start, remove the batteries for 30 seconds and try again.
- Try fresh alkaline batteries if you have not already.
- If seven controllers are already paired, remove one before adding another.
- Use the Fire TV app as an alternative control or pairing path if the physical remote remains unavailable.

Reset only if pairing still fails
Amazon provides different reset steps for most Fire TV remotes, the Basic Edition remote, and the first-generation Alexa Voice Remote. Check your exact remote model before using a sequence; the general procedure below is not for those two exceptions.
- Unplug the Fire TV device from power and HDMI for 60 seconds.
- On the remote, hold Left, Menu, and Back for 12 seconds, then release and wait five seconds.
- Remove the remote’s batteries.
- Reconnect the Fire TV device and wait for its remote-detection message.
- Reinstall the batteries and press Home. If pairing does not occur, hold Home for 10 seconds.

If the Cube can’t connect to Wi-Fi
Run Network Diagnostics first
If the screen says “Unable to Connect,” select Network Diagnostics and follow its recommendations. Where the tool is available, open Settings > Network and press Play/Pause. Some devices also show Run Speed Test or Advanced.
Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide describes the options available on supported devices.
Restart the Cube and reconnect to the saved network
- Unplug the Cube’s power for 10 seconds, then reconnect it.
- If it still cannot connect, open Settings > Network and toggle Wi-Fi off and on.
- If necessary, select the saved network, press Menu to forget it, then reconnect and enter the network password.
Restart the modem and router in order
- Unplug both the modem and router for one minute.
- Reconnect the modem first and wait about a minute for its internet connection.
- Reconnect the router and wait about a minute for it to restart.
If possible, move the Cube and router closer together. If several devices have lost internet access, the problem may be with the home network or a broader outage rather than the Cube alone.

Try Ethernet if Wi-Fi remains unreliable
Amazon lists Ethernet as an option for the Cube and describes using it instead of Wi-Fi. Its streaming instructions refer to the included Ethernet adapter, but hardware generations and package contents vary. Check your Cube’s ports, exact generation, and included accessories before buying an adapter or cable. A wired connection can help test whether the Wi-Fi link is the problem, but it does not guarantee a fix.
Factory-reset only after the earlier steps fail
A factory reset is disruptive and can require you to set up the Cube again. Amazon places it after diagnostics, restarting, reconnecting to Wi-Fi, and restarting the router in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance. Use the reset instructions linked there only after the less disruptive steps have failed.

Determine whether the problem is limited to one app
If other apps play normally but one app buffers or fails, clear that app’s data and restart the Cube:

- Open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select the affected app, then choose Force Stop followed by Clear Data, and follow the prompts.
- Briefly unplug the Cube’s power adapter to restart it.
Clearing app data means you will need to sign in to that app again. See Amazon’s instructions for clearing app data.
Restart the Cube for broader playback problems
If several apps are affected, restart the Cube by unplugging it briefly, or hold its Action button for 10 seconds to switch it off and press Action again to restart. Amazon’s restart instructions cover the device procedure.
For broader streaming trouble, Amazon also recommends restarting home networking equipment and using Ethernet if possible. Follow the modem-and-router sequence in the Wi-Fi section, and verify whether an Ethernet adapter is included and compatible with your particular Cube before purchasing one. Amazon’s Fire TV Cube streaming guidance lists these steps.

If a 4K Ultra HD title has picture trouble
For 4K Ultra HD titles, Amazon recommends a high-speed HDMI cable. Check the HDMI connection and cable as part of this specific video-quality branch; do not assume an HDMI change will resolve a Wi-Fi or app sign-in issue. Check the exact model before replacing anything
Fire TV Cube generations and included accessories vary, and Amazon’s cited support pages do not provide a complete remote compatibility matrix. Before buying a replacement remote or Ethernet adapter, identify your Cube generation and remote model, then confirm compatibility and whether the needed accessory was already included. Replace remote batteries first when low power is indicated; a replacement remote belongs after pairing and the correct model-specific reset steps have failed.
