Activision’s published steps are general Warzone connectivity guidance, not a DMZ-specific troubleshooting guide, so treat router changes as tests rather than guaranteed fixes.
Check whether DMZ or your platform is having a service problem
Before changing your network, check the Call of Duty online services status and look for the status of the platform you use. Activision’s Warzone connection guidance says a service indicator that is not green or a posted alert can signal a service-side problem. The online-services page also links to platform network status checks.
Status pages can change. If an outage or maintenance alert is posted, wait for the service to recover before spending time on router changes. If the status checks show services available, continue with local connection tests.
Test your local connection before adjusting the router
- Restart your router and gaming device if practical, then try matchmaking again.
- If you are playing over Wi-Fi, test with a wired Ethernet connection. Activision Support says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.”
- Pause large downloads, streams, or other bandwidth-heavy applications while testing so they do not compete with the game for your connection.
Wired Ethernet is a troubleshooting comparison, not a fix for an Activision or platform outage. If a cable is not practical, test near the router and avoid adding router changes at the same time; changing one factor at a time makes it easier to tell what affected the result.

Try Activision’s router tests one change at a time
Activision’s Warzone guide describes a staged router sequence and recommends testing the game after each change. Router menus differ by manufacturer, so follow your router’s instructions rather than guessing menu names or port numbers. You may not need to perform every step.
- Test UPnP: Turn off port forwarding if it is enabled, turn on UPnP, and test matchmaking.
- Test manual port forwarding: If the problem remains, turn off UPnP, enable port forwarding, assign the console a static IP address, and test again. Use the router and platform’s official instructions for the required settings; the cited guide does not establish a DMZ-specific port list.
- Use the DMZ only as a temporary test: If the issue remains, turn off port forwarding and assign the console’s static IP to the router’s DMZ, then test. Activision specifically instructs users to remove the static IP from the DMZ after testing. Do not leave the console assigned to DMZ as a permanent setting.
UPnP and manual port forwarding are alternative troubleshooting configurations in this sequence, not settings Activision identifies as universally best. Change only the setting needed for a test and revert it if it does not help.

When to contact your ISP or network administrator
If service status is clear and the connection and router tests do not resolve the problem, Activision advises contacting your internet service provider. If you play on a school, corporate, or other shared network, ask its network administrator for help; you may not have permission to change the network settings required for these tests.
