Start with the exact game and problem
Before changing settings, note the remaster’s full title, where you installed it, your Windows version and PC hardware, and any error message. Record whether the issue began after a game, graphics-driver, or Windows update. These details help distinguish a game-specific problem from a broader system or configuration issue.
Next, check the publisher’s system requirements and support page for that exact title. Capcom’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster troubleshooting guidance starts with checking requirements; a PC below minimum requirements can have poor performance or fail to launch. Requirements and known issues for one remaster do not establish what another game needs.
Why won’t the game launch?
- Check requirements and official support notes. Confirm your PC meets the game’s stated requirements and look for title-specific launch advice.
- Update the game and graphics driver. Follow the game’s storefront update process and get GPU drivers from your graphics-card or PC manufacturer’s official support site. Rockstar’s PC launch guidance also points to game updates and graphics drivers.
- Check the installation. If your storefront offers an option to verify or repair installed files, run it, restart the PC, and test again. Verification is a low-risk diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix.
- Escalate with useful details. If the game still will not start, contact the publisher or storefront support with the error, game version, system specifications, and relevant diagnostic report.
How do I fix a black screen or wrong resolution?
First look for display and video settings documented for the particular game. If you can reach its menus, try a supported resolution or display mode, then restart the game to see whether the change addressed the symptom.

Steam Support documents setting a video mode and resolution before launch, but the available launch options depend on the game and its engine. Do not assume an option such as -autoconfig works for every remaster; use it only when the game’s own support information says it applies. See Steam Support’s display troubleshooting guidance.
Why does the game keep crashing?
Change one thing at a time so you can tell whether a change helps. Check that the PC meets requirements, install available game and graphics-driver updates, and consider whether overlays or other unusual software might be involved. Restart and test after each change rather than applying several unverified fixes together.

Hardware configurations can matter, but checks must be specific to the game and setup. Capcom notes that multi-GPU configurations can cause compatibility issues for some of the titles covered by its support guidance and suggests testing with that configuration disabled. Treat this as a targeted check when it matches your PC and the publisher documents it for your game—not as a universal crash fix. Why isn’t my controller recognized?
Check the game’s own store listing or support page to confirm it supports controllers and, if stated, your controller type. Steam Support cautions: “Any Steam game can be played while in Big Picture mode, though not all Steam games support the use of a controller.” Steam’s Big Picture documentation lists official Microsoft Xbox controllers among those supported by the platform, but that does not mean every game accepts them. When should I try compatibility modes or advanced edits?
Use compatibility modes or configuration changes only when the publisher documents them for your exact game and Windows version. Rockstar’s Max Payne support article covers older Windows releases, including Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8, and describes compatibility and resolution adjustments for those cases. That guidance was last updated in 2023; it does not establish that the same steps will work on current Windows releases.
Be especially cautious with registry edits and community workarounds. Rockstar labels registry editing risky and says some community sound fixes are untested. Avoid registry changes, operating-system downgrades, single-core boot changes, and unofficial patches as general first-line troubleshooting.

How to decide whether a proposed fix is worth trying
- Game-specific evidence: Is the fix documented for this exact title and relevant version?
- Risk and reversibility: Can you undo the change easily, and could it affect other software or Windows?
- Symptom match: Does it address the launch, display, crash, or controller problem you actually have?
- Clear test: Can you restart the game and observe whether the specific symptom changed?
Prefer official updates and reversible settings before configuration edits. If you cannot verify that a workaround applies to your game, do not treat it as a dependable fix.

Contact the game publisher or storefront support with the full game title, storefront, Windows version, hardware specifications, game version, exact error or symptom, and the changes you already tried. Include the relevant diagnostic report if the support page requests one. Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 troubleshooting guidance asks players with continuing problems to provide diagnostic details and configuration information.
