If your mechanical keyboard misses keystrokes, repeats a letter, or keeps disconnecting, first work out whether the problem follows the keyboard, the computer, or a particular app. Test the affected key in another program, then check the connection and power before assuming a switch has failed. The steps below cover Windows Bluetooth and general wired-USB checks; for cleaning, repair, and device-specific settings, follow your keyboard maker’s instructions.
Start by identifying what is failing
Notice whether the whole keyboard is unresponsive, one key misses input, a key repeats or sticks, or a wireless connection drops. Try the affected key in a second application. If the symptom occurs only in one program, investigate that application rather than opening the keyboard.
When practical, connect the keyboard to another computer. If the same problem follows it, the keyboard is a more likely source; if it works elsewhere, look at the original computer’s software, drivers, or ports. These checks help isolate the cause, but they do not prove a particular component has failed. Logitech recommends checking another program and another computer as part of keyboard troubleshooting (Logitech Support).
Fix missed, stuck, or repeating keys
Check the symptom in more than one app and computer
Test the troublesome key in a second application, and, if possible, on another computer. A symptom confined to one app suggests an application-specific issue. If the keyboard works on another computer, investigate the original computer’s settings, drivers, or connection. Treat these as diagnostic clues, not a guaranteed diagnosis.

Clean only as the manufacturer allows
For a key that sticks or responds intermittently, Logitech’s general guidance says: “Clean the button/key with compressed air.” (Logitech Support.) Follow your keyboard maker’s cleaning and safety instructions; this is cleaning advice, not a promise that a failed switch will be repaired.
If the same key still fails across apps and computers after approved cleaning, consult the manufacturer about service, warranty, or repair for your exact model. Switch removal, soldering, and hot-swap socket procedures vary by keyboard; the general support guidance here does not establish a universal repair method.

Fix a wired keyboard that disconnects or stops responding
- Connect directly: Plug the keyboard into a USB port on the computer, bypassing a hub, extender, or switch. Logitech recommends a direct connection for this check (Logitech Support).
- Try another port: Move it to a different USB port and test again. Logitech also recommends trying another computer when available (Logitech Support).
- Compare computers: If the keyboard works on another computer, the original computer’s port, software, or drivers may be involved. Logitech notes a USB chipset driver as one possible Windows factor; it is not a certain diagnosis.
Do not assume any replacement cable will work: replace one only if your model has a detachable cable and the keyboard maker specifies a compatible one.
Fix Bluetooth pairing or disconnections in Windows
Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Settings labels can vary by version. Try these checks in order:

- Run the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter if it is available, and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
- Put the keyboard into its model-specific pairing mode and bring it within range. Microsoft states, “Your Bluetooth device must be in pairing mode and within range of your PC.” (Microsoft Support.)
- If it is already listed but will not connect, remove the keyboard from Windows Bluetooth devices and pair it again using the keyboard maker’s instructions.
- Check the keyboard’s battery. Microsoft notes that some Bluetooth devices may not enter pairing mode or maintain a connection when battery power is low (Microsoft Support).
- Toggle Bluetooth off and back on, check for Windows updates, then restart the computer.
Check battery and charging by keyboard type
Replaceable batteries
For a keyboard that uses non-rechargeable batteries, install fresh batteries of the type specified by its manufacturer. Do not apply this step to a model with a built-in rechargeable battery.
Rechargeable keyboards
Check that the charging cable is seated correctly and that the charging path works. Use equipment compatible with the keyboard’s connector and charging requirements; a cable recommendation for one model does not establish compatibility with another. When should you contact the keyboard maker?
- The same key continues to miss, stick, or repeat across applications and computers after manufacturer-approved cleaning.
- The keyboard will not connect after you have checked the relevant USB or Bluetooth steps and power source.
- You are considering removing a switch, soldering, or replacing a component but do not have instructions for the exact model.
Use the keyboard maker’s model-specific support and warranty information to decide whether service or repair is appropriate. Firmware or configuration software is relevant only if the manufacturer provides it for your particular keyboard; do not install generic third-party driver utilities as a substitute for host or manufacturer troubleshooting.
