Check that the domain’s DNS points to the intended hosting server and that the domain is assigned to the correct cPanel account and virtual host. cPanel identifies a DNS-to-virtual-host IP mismatch or a missing virtual host as common causes: cPanel’s explanation.
First, identify which address shows the page
Test the exact address that displays the error: the bare domain, its www version, a subdomain, the server’s IP address, or its hostname. These are not interchangeable. cPanel documents a separate default-page behavior when someone visits the main server IP or hostname: the hostname virtual host may load, and in the setup it describes, /var/www/html/index.html redirects to /cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi (cPanel: domain redirects; cPanel: default webpage).
So, if the page appears only when you enter the server IP or hostname, that alone does not show that your separate website domain is misconfigured. Test the actual domain visitors use.
Check the domain’s DNS and cPanel assignment
- Confirm the intended hosting server. Check with your hosting provider which server should serve the domain, then verify that the domain’s DNS points to that server. If the domain points elsewhere, its requests will not reach the intended website.
- Confirm the domain is configured in the expected cPanel account. Ask the provider or account administrator to verify that the domain has been added to the right account and has a virtual host configured for it.
- Compare the IP addresses. cPanel says the default page can appear when the domain resolves to an IP different from the IP in its virtual-host setting. Have the provider confirm that the DNS destination and virtual-host IP match.
- Test the exact affected hostname again. Check the bare domain,
www, or subdomain that originally showed the page; a working version does not by itself confirm that the other hostname is configured correctly.
If the settings look right, contact the host
DNS can be checked from your domain or hosting account, but virtual-host configuration is server-side. If the DNS destination and cPanel account assignment appear correct and the default page remains, ask your hosting provider or server administrator to inspect the domain’s virtual host and server configuration. Do not edit server configuration files unless you administer that server.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsProvide the exact hostname that shows the page and the DNS destination you see, along with the cPanel account or server involved. Those details help the administrator distinguish a DNS mismatch from a missing or incorrect virtual-host configuration. The available configuration information does not identify which cause applies to an individual domain.

After the provider confirms a configuration change, revisit the affected hostname. Browser or DNS caching may influence what you see, but cPanel’s cited guidance does not specify a cache-clearing procedure or establish cache clearing as a fix. If the page persists, report that result to the provider so they can verify the server-side configuration.
