If your Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless headphones will not pair or keep dropping audio, start by clearing the old Bluetooth pairing and pairing both devices again. If dropouts happen in a crowded place, turn off HiRes or Lossless audio in the Smart Control Plus app; Sennheiser recommends that setting change specifically to reduce interference in crowded environments, not as a universal fix.
The steps below follow Sennheiser’s MOMENTUM 5 support material current as of 7 October 2026. They apply to the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless; app labels may change.
How to fix MOMENTUM 5 headphones that will not pair
Sennheiser’s first pairing check is that both the headphones and the source device are in pairing mode. If you previously connected the headphones to that phone or computer, remove the saved MOMENTUM 5 Bluetooth entry from the source device before pairing again. Sennheiser’s MOMENTUM 5 troubleshooting article, updated 24 September 2026, gives this model-specific advice.
- On your phone, tablet, or computer, open its Bluetooth settings and forget or remove the saved MOMENTUM 5 entry.
- Turn the headphones off and place them within 20 cm of the Bluetooth device.
- Turn the headphones on, then switch on Bluetooth on the source device.
- Search for available Bluetooth devices and select MOMENTUM 5.
These are the sequence and distance specified in the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless instruction manual. If the devices do not connect within two minutes, pairing mode is canceled and the headphones enter standby. Start the sequence again if that happens.

What to try when Bluetooth audio keeps dropping
In a crowded place, switch off HiRes or Lossless
Sennheiser’s dropout recommendation is conditional: in a crowded environment, do not use HiRes or Lossless audio. Change the audio-quality setting in the app to reduce interference from other Bluetooth devices. This advice does not establish that interference is the cause of every dropout, or that changing the setting will resolve a problem in every location.
If the issue continues, Sennheiser directs owners to its Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance or customer support.

Check which device is supplying audio
MOMENTUM 5 supports multipoint connections with two devices. Audio can switch automatically depending on which connected device is actively playing, or has a call or notification. If sound seems to move to the wrong device, pause playback or check the other device for an active call or notification. Sennheiser says manual switching is available through the Smart Control Plus app on a phone.

Use a wired connection to narrow down the problem
Wired listening offers a way to check whether the symptom is limited to Bluetooth, or to keep listening without a Bluetooth connection. The headphones support USB-C audio and analog listening with the included USB-C-to-USB-C or 2.5 mm-to-3.5 mm AUX cable. For analog listening, the headphones must be powered on.
- For USB-C audio: use a USB-C 3.x cable that supports data transfer; a charging-only cable will not carry audio. Sennheiser suggests the included USB-C cable and advises checking the computer or phone’s selected audio output.
- For analog audio: connect the included AUX cable and leave the headphones powered on.
If wired audio works but Bluetooth does not, that helps isolate the issue to the wireless connection path; it does not by itself identify a specific cause. See Sennheiser’s connection and setup information.

Reset the headphones if pairing and connection checks fail
Sennheiser’s troubleshooting article says to hold the power button for 20 seconds until the headphones restart. It also describes a factory reset through the app or a 20-second button hold, using overlapping reset terminology without clearly distinguishing what settings or pairings each route removes.
- Hold the power button for 20 seconds and wait for the headphones to restart.
- Try connecting again. If the problem remains and you intend to factory-reset, use the reset option in the app or the button-hold method described by Sennheiser.
Because the support article does not specify exactly which saved data or settings are erased by each route, do not assume a reset preserves or clears a particular pairing or preference.

Contact Sennheiser if the headphones still will not pair or audio continues to drop after the steps above. The troubleshooting article points users with persistent Bluetooth problems to its Bluetooth help section or support. The U.S. MOMENTUM 5 support page provides a contact route to the Consumer Experience team. Support availability and outcomes depend on the case; no resolution time is specified on the cited pages.
