If people can’t see your shared location, check Find My > Me and make sure Share My Location is on and Sharing From names the iPhone you’re using. If you’re trying to locate the iPhone itself, check Settings > [your name] > Find My > Find My iPhone. These are separate Find My functions, so start with the one that matches what’s missing.
First, identify which location is missing
Find My can show your location to people, and it can help you locate your Apple devices. The checks overlap, but the settings are different:
- A person can’t see your location: check Share My Location, the device listed under Sharing From, and Find My’s Location Services permission.
- You can’t see an iPhone in the Devices tab: check Find My iPhone settings, then interpret whether the phone is online, offline, or showing an older location.
- A device or item is missing from the list: confirm which device or accessory you’re looking for and update its operating system to the latest applicable version.
If other people can’t see your location
Turn on location sharing and select the right device
- Open Find My and tap Me.
- Turn on Share My Location.
- Check the device shown under Sharing From. If it isn’t the iPhone whose location you want to share, tap Use This iPhone as My Location.
A different Apple device may be set as the source. Apple also notes that a paired GPS + Cellular Apple Watch can share your location when the iPhone is out of range and the watch is on your wrist. See Apple’s instructions for sharing your location in Find My.
Allow Find My to use Location Services
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Make sure Location Services is on.
- Find Find My in the app list and allow it to access location.
- If you need an exact position, make sure Precise Location is enabled for Find My.
Apple says that turning off Location Services prevents apps from using location data. Its guide to controlling location information on iPhone explains the system and app-level controls.

If you can’t locate the iPhone itself
Check Find My iPhone settings
- Open Settings > [your name] > Find My > Find My iPhone.
- Turn on Find My iPhone.
- Consider turning on Find My network to help locate the device when it’s offline.
- Consider turning on Send Last Location so the iPhone can send its location when its battery is critically low.
These options prepare Find My to locate a device; they do not guarantee a live location when the phone cannot send one. Apple’s Find My setup instructions describe the settings and their roles.
Use the status message to understand what Find My can show
An offline iPhone may show only its last known location. Apple says Find My may display a last known location for up to seven days. If more than seven days have passed since the device last sent its location through the Find My network, Find My cannot display a location and may show “No location found.”

“Not sharing location • Online” means the device is online but unable to send its location; Apple gives a Location Services issue as an example. An “Offline” status by itself does not establish that the phone has a hardware fault. See Apple’s explanation of Find My status messages and locating a lost device.
If a device or item doesn’t appear in Find My
Apple advises updating to the latest applicable operating system when a device or item is not listed or appearing in Find My. First confirm whether you’re looking for an iPhone, another Apple device, or an accessory; the exact setup and account checks can differ. The cited Apple guidance does not specify a single account check that resolves every missing-list case.

Try iCloud.com if the iPhone is lost
As a browser fallback, Apple says you can use Find Devices on iCloud.com to locate a lost iPhone. Apple notes that Stolen Device Protection and changing an Apple Account password in an unfamiliar location can affect whether device locations are visible at iCloud.com/find. Its lost-device guidance covers this limitation.

If the settings above are correct but the status does not change, Find My may not have a current location to display. The available result depends on whether the phone can reconnect and send location data, as well as its account and settings state. Apple’s support guidance does not guarantee that toggling a setting will restore an update; contact Apple Support if the cause remains unclear.
