If your TV’s specifications do not support a native 360Hz input at the resolution you want, there is no setting or cable that can add it. First confirm the exact TV model’s supported input modes; then check the port, HDMI format, source, game, and cable. If 360Hz is essential and the TV cannot accept it, you need a compatible high-refresh monitor.

First, check what “360Hz” means for your TV

Three different rates can be confused: the panel’s native refresh rate, the signal refresh rate accepted by a TV input, and the frame rate produced by a PC, console, or game. A motion-smoothing or “effective” motion figure in a product description does not establish that the TV accepts a native 360Hz signal. Check the exact model’s official specifications or manual for supported input timings at your intended resolution.

Refresh rate is also not the same as game frame rate. HDMI’s official explanation says, “VRR lets a gaming source deliver video frames as fast as it can, which in many cases is slower than the normal static refresh rate.” HDMI’s specification overview explains that VRR synchronizes display behavior to frames from the source; it does not make a game render at the TV’s maximum refresh rate.

Work through the signal chain

The usable mode depends on every link: the TV’s input, any device between the source and TV, the cable, the source’s output, and the game. A weakness or limit anywhere in that chain can leave you with a lower refresh rate.

  1. Find the full TV model number. Check the label or settings screen, then consult the manufacturer’s specification page or manual. Confirm both the maximum refresh rate and the resolution at which it is supported. If 360Hz is not listed for the relevant input timing, the TV does not have established support for that mode. HDMI 2.1 branding alone is not proof: Samsung notes that HDMI 2.1 support varies by model and year.
  2. Connect the source directly to the TV. Temporarily remove an AV receiver, soundbar, switch, capture card, or adapter from the video path. Each intermediate device must pass the mode you are testing. For compatible consoles and supported 4K/120Hz modes, Sony directs users to an input labelled for 4K/120Hz or configured for VRR; the port labels and positions vary by TV.
  3. Select the appropriate HDMI signal format. In the TV’s input settings, enable its suitable enhanced or high-bandwidth signal format, then use Game Mode or supported VRR settings as appropriate. Exact labels and availability depend on model and region. Samsung’s guidance covers Game Mode, Auto Game Mode, ALLM, and VRR for selected models; Sony also notes model and regional differences. Do not enable options your TV does not support.
  4. Check the source and game output. On a PC, verify the selected resolution and refresh rate in the operating system and graphics control panel, and check the GPU’s output limits. On a console, check its video information and whether the particular game offers a high-frame-rate mode. Menus vary by source. A TV cannot display frames the source or game does not produce.
  5. Check resolution-specific modes. Do not assume a device’s highest refresh rate is available at every resolution or on every connector. Consult the TV, source, and any intermediary device’s supported-mode tables for the exact combination you want.
  6. Check the cable only if the supported link may be the bottleneck. Use the cable class specified by the device makers. For supported console 4K/120Hz, Sony recommends the console-included cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. HDMI’s guidance describes Ultra High Speed HDMI configurations as supporting up to 48Gbps maximum bandwidth; that does not imply a TV accepts 360Hz. A cable can resolve a link limitation, but cannot upgrade the TV’s panel or accepted timings.
  7. Update and retest. Update the TV firmware and source software, restart both devices, and test one supported resolution/refresh combination at a time. Samsung includes TV software updates and console ALLM/VRR checks in its gaming setup guidance. If a mode listed in your TV’s manual remains unavailable, contact the manufacturer with the model number and connection details rather than attempting an internal repair.

Why does my TV only show 60Hz?

A 60Hz option can mean the TV’s relevant input does not support a higher mode, the source is set to output 60Hz, the chosen resolution is outside the TV’s higher-refresh combinations, or an intermediary device or cable is limiting the link. Check each part against its official supported-mode information instead of assuming the cable is the cause.

If the TV manual lists a higher rate for that input and resolution but it still does not appear, test a direct connection and the correct HDMI format, then verify the source output. Escalate to the TV maker if the listed mode remains unavailable after those checks.

How do I enable 120Hz on my TV?

First verify that your exact TV model supports 120Hz at the resolution you intend to use. Connect a compatible source to the input specified for that mode, choose the TV’s appropriate enhanced HDMI format, and enable any supported Game Mode or VRR options. Set the source and game to a compatible output mode, and use the cable class specified by the manufacturers. For console 4K/120Hz, Sony recommends the included cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Menu names and supported inputs vary by model and region, so follow your TV’s own manual rather than applying another model’s path.

If you really need 360Hz

Choose a display whose specifications explicitly list native 360Hz at the required resolution and on the input you plan to use. Compare input-specific modes and PC or console compatibility, not a TV’s motion-processing label against a monitor’s native refresh specification. Also check VRR support, connections, and intended use.

27" 360Hz QHD Fast IPS Gaming Monitor,0.5ms FreeSync+G-Sync,HDR400,VESA
  • Every millisecond decides victory or defeat. With a blistering 360Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms (GtG) Fast IPS panel, this 27" monitor delivers buttery‑smooth motion with virtually zero ghosting or blur. Track enemies across the screen, react instantly, and never miss a frame – whether you're in a clutch round or a high‑speed race.
  • High refresh rate monitors often force you to choose between speed and image quality. Not this one. QHD (2560×1440) resolution paired with Fast IPS technology gives you stunning detail and consistent colors from any 178° viewing angle. With 120% sRGB, 90% DCI-P3, and Delta E<2 factory calibration, colors are vivid and true-to-life–perfect for competitive gaming and creative work.
  • Dark corners hide enemies; washed‑out highlights ruin immersion.HDR400 delivers brighter highlights and deeper shadows, so you can spot threats hiding in the dark without losing detail in bright explosions. Combined with 400 nits brightness and 1000:1 contrast, every scene looks balanced and realistic.
  • Screen tearing, stuttering, and motion blur are game-killers. This monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible for tear-free, lag-free gameplay on any GPU. Plus, ELMB SYNC (Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync) works simultaneously with variable refresh rate – eliminating both ghosting and tearing in one go. Smoothness you can see and feel.
  • Neck pain and awkward angles shouldn't be part of your setup. Adjust height (0–3.94in), tilt (-5°~+15°), swivel (±45°), and pivot 90° for portrait mode – ideal for coding, streaming, or vertical shooters. The sturdy stand keeps the monitor rock-solid, and VESA 100×100mm mounting lets you go wall‑mounted or arm‑mounted for a clutter‑free desk.

For example, MSI specifies its MPG 271QRX QD-OLED as a 2560×1440, 360Hz monitor, while listing console support separately at 120Hz. It is a monitor, not a way to make a TV run at 360Hz. See MSI’s specifications for the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED and confirm the modes supported by your own source.
