If your Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic will not connect or sync, first confirm that your phone is compatible, then check Bluetooth, Galaxy Wearable, permissions, and power-saving settings. Restart the watch and phone before considering a reset. If you have changed phones, use the watch’s transfer workflow rather than pairing it from the phone’s Bluetooth menu.
1. Confirm your phone is compatible and check the connection status
Samsung’s U.S. compatibility table lists Galaxy Watch8 series requirements of Android 12.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of RAM. It does not support iOS, and some non-Samsung phone models and tablets are unsupported. Check your specific phone model against Samsung’s compatibility guidance; requirements and available features can vary by model, region, and software.
Open Galaxy Wearable on the phone. Samsung says Start means the watch and phone are not connected. If the app says Remotely connected to watch or Disconnected from watch, Samsung identifies Bluetooth being off as a possible cause. Check Bluetooth on both devices and follow Samsung’s connection troubleshooting steps.
2. Check Bluetooth, range, and modes
- Turn on Bluetooth on both the phone and the watch.
- Turn off airplane mode on both. Airplane mode disables Bluetooth; if you switch airplane mode off and Bluetooth remains off, turn Bluetooth on manually.
- Keep the phone and watch close together and remove obstacles where practical. Samsung gives a maximum Bluetooth range of 10 m (32 ft), but the usable distance varies with the environment.
- Turn off power-saving mode on the phone and watch, and verify that watch-only mode is off.
- For a content transfer, charge both devices above 25%, as Samsung recommends.
When these settings are corrected, close and reopen Galaxy Wearable and check whether it connects.

3. Review app permissions and sync requirements
On the phone, check permissions for Galaxy Wearable and the relevant Galaxy Watch plugin. Samsung’s connection guidance also advises allowing Google Play services permissions that are listed as not allowed. If only one type of content will not transfer, check the relevant app’s permissions on the watch as well. The exact settings and menu names can vary with your phone, watch, and software version.
4. Restart the devices, then update
Restart the phone and watch, then reopen Galaxy Wearable. Samsung says restarting can resolve minor watch issues. If the watch is frozen, Samsung’s Canada restart guide says to hold the Home and Back buttons together for at least seven seconds, until the Samsung logo appears. Button names and steps may differ by model or software.

Once the watch is connected, install available updates for Galaxy Wearable and the watch. Samsung notes that updating the watch through Galaxy Wearable requires a Bluetooth connection to a phone, so this update route will not work until the connection is restored.
5. If you changed phones, transfer the watch through Galaxy Wearable
For a new phone, use the watch’s transfer function instead of repeatedly trying to pair through the phone’s general Bluetooth screen. Samsung’s new-phone transfer guide gives this workflow:

- Signature Rotating Bezel: Physical rotating bezel provides precise, tactile navigation through apps, menus, and notifications.
- On the watch, open Settings > General > Transfer watch to new phone.
- On the new phone, open Galaxy Wearable, tap Start, and select the watch.
- Confirm that the number shown on the watch matches the number on the phone, then follow the setup prompts.
Back up before transferring: depending on the watch model and software, changing phones may reset the watch and remove its data. In Galaxy Wearable, use Watch settings > Accounts and backup > Back up data. Screens and labels can vary.

If the connection still fails after the checks and restart, Samsung advises backing up watch data, resetting the watch, and reconnecting it. A reset returns the watch to its default state and can erase data, so do not reset before making a backup if one is available. Follow Samsung’s sync troubleshooting guidance for the reset and reconnection process.

If the watch still will not connect after a reset, or if you suspect physical damage, use Samsung Support to contact support, request repair, or find a service center. Support and service options depend on your region.
