If your PS5 keeps ejecting discs, start by checking the disc’s orientation and condition, then try another supported disc. Sony’s official disc guidance covers disc problems generally, not repeated automatic ejection specifically, so these checks may help rule out disc-related issues but are not a guaranteed fix. If the ejections continue, follow Sony’s repair guidance. A disc physically stuck inside the console is a separate problem with a separate manual-removal procedure.

Check the disc and how it is inserted

  1. Confirm the orientation. If the PS5 is standing vertically, Sony says the disc’s labeled side should face left as you insert it. For other console positions, follow the orientation shown in Sony’s disc troubleshooting guidance: How to troubleshoot disc issues on PS5 consoles.
  2. Clean the disc. Wipe away dirt or fingerprints with a soft, clean cloth, then try inserting it again.
  3. Test another supported disc. Try a different PS5 game, Blu-ray, or DVD. Sony says PS5 consoles cannot play burned discs or audio CDs.

If one disc causes trouble but others work, that points toward a problem involving that disc rather than establishing a console fault. Sony’s general troubleshooting steps do not identify the cause of recurring automatic ejection.

Try Sony’s non-destructive Safe Mode option

Sony recommends clearing the cache and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode as part of its general disc troubleshooting. This is a software check, not a fix Sony specifically guarantees for a PS5 that repeatedly ejects discs.

  1. Turn off the PS5 by pressing the power button. Wait until the console is fully off.
  2. Press and hold the power button again. Release it after you hear the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
  3. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
  4. Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then choose the available cache-clearing and database-rebuilding option and follow the prompts.

Use the Safe Mode options as labeled on your console. Sony’s disc troubleshooting page lists resetting and reinstalling system software only if rebuilding the database does not resolve the issue.

Keep a system-software reset as a last resort

If rebuilding the database fails, Sony lists Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) as a further step. This is destructive: Sony warns that it deletes all console information. Before considering it, consult Sony’s system-software guidance and back up any data you want to keep. Do not start with a reset for recurring ejection.

Know when recurring ejection needs repair support

Sony’s reviewed disc guidance does not name a specific cause or promise a solution for repeated automatic ejection. If the disc checks and Sony’s software steps do not stop it, Sony directs users to PlayStation Repairs. The symptom alone is not enough to diagnose a particular component, so avoid treating an internal drive replacement as a confirmed or first-line fix.

If a disc is physically stuck inside the PS5

Manual ejection is for a disc that will not come out; it is not a remedy for a console that ejects discs on its own. Sony’s procedure requires removing the cover to reach the manual-eject screw, and the steps can vary with console construction. Use Sony’s current instructions for your console rather than improvising: How to eject a stuck disc from a PS5 console.

Sony specifies a #1 Phillips, or cross-hatch, screwdriver for this procedure. That tool is relevant only if you are following the stuck-disc instructions; buying one will not address recurring automatic ejection. Sony instructs users to turn off the console, disconnect cables and devices, and place it on a soft surface before removing the cover. Turn the manual-eject screw clockwise until the disc is almost fully visible, then remove it gently. Do not force the disc. Sony warns: “Don’t turn on or play on your console with the cover off.”

If the console shows error CE-110538-8

Sony defines CE-110538-8 as “Failed to read Blu-ray disc.” Its troubleshooting calls for inspecting the disc, checking that it is inserted correctly, and trying another disc. If the read problem continues, Sony advises contacting PlayStation or using PlayStation Repairs. This read-error code does not by itself establish why a console keeps ejecting discs.
