Start by bringing the speaker and source device close together, then test another app or device. If the problem persists, check power, restart and update both devices, and remove and re-pair the speaker using instructions for its exact model. For audio from a Windows 10 or 11 PC, check the Bluetooth adapter’s power settings and driver as well.
First, find out whether the problem is the connection, the audio source, or the environment
A Bluetooth speaker that skips or disconnects is not necessarily faulty. Note whether the Bluetooth connection itself drops or whether playback stutters while the connection stays active. Then check whether the behavior changes with a different distance, app, or source device. These comparisons help determine which steps are most relevant.
- Source: Does it happen with only one phone or computer, or with more than one? Bose and Sonos recommend testing another Bluetooth device, app, or media source (Bose; Sonos).
- Environment: Does moving closer or away from nearby electronics improve playback? Distance, obstacles, and the surrounding environment can affect a Bluetooth link. Bose notes that walls, doors, and other electronics can weaken the signal; this is guidance for its SoundLink Mini II Special Edition, not a universal performance specification (Bose support).
- Audio source: If music is streamed over Wi-Fi or cellular, check whether the same stutter occurs with another app or a locally available audio file. Sonos also advises checking the phone’s network connection when streamed music is affected (Sonos support).
Try these fixes in order
1. Test close to the speaker in a clear area
Place the phone, tablet, or computer near the speaker, with as few walls and other obstructions between them as practical. Temporarily move away from nearby wireless equipment and electronics, then play audio and see whether the interruption changes. If it improves, move one environmental factor at a time to identify what affects the connection. Bose, Sony, and Sonos all identify distance or the surrounding environment as relevant; no single distance is guaranteed to work in every room (Bose; Sony; Sonos).
2. Try another app and source device
Play audio from a different app or source. If possible, connect a second phone, tablet, or computer to the speaker. If the second source plays smoothly, investigate the original app, device, or streaming connection. If the same interruptions occur with several sources, continue with speaker-side checks. Bose and Sonos recommend these comparisons (Bose; Sonos).

3. Check charge and restart both devices
Make sure the speaker and source device have enough charge. Use their ordinary power controls to restart them, then reconnect and test playback. Samsung includes charging and restarting among its Galaxy Bluetooth troubleshooting checks, and Bose recommends rebooting the source device for intermittent speaker audio (Samsung; Bose).
4. Check for updates, then remove and re-pair the speaker
Check for available operating-system updates on the phone or computer. For speaker updates, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model. If the connection is still unstable, remove the speaker from the source device’s Bluetooth list and pair it again. Some speakers can also clear stored pairings. The steps differ by model: Bose documents one Bluetooth-button procedure for the SoundLink Plus, while Xiaomi provides a different procedure for its Bluetooth Speaker (Bose SoundLink Plus; Xiaomi). Do not assume another model uses the same controls.

5. If the source is a Windows 10 or 11 PC, check its Bluetooth settings
Microsoft’s guidance for Windows 10 and Windows 11 includes the following computer-specific checks. Follow the current instructions that match your installed version (Microsoft: Fix Bluetooth problems in Windows).
- Temporarily turn off Battery Saver or Energy Saver to see whether it affects connectivity.
- In Device Manager, check the Bluetooth adapter’s power-management setting so Windows is not turning it off to save power.
- Restart Bluetooth Support Service.
- Check for an updated Bluetooth adapter driver.
6. Reset only with instructions for the exact speaker
A reset can be a later troubleshooting step, but reset combinations and effects vary. A restart is not necessarily the same as a factory restore: Bose documents a factory restore for the SoundLink Plus that returns its settings to factory state, while Xiaomi provides separate model-specific reset guidance (Bose SoundLink Plus; Xiaomi). Before resetting, consult the exact model’s manual or official support page and check whether the procedure erases pairings or other settings.

When to contact the speaker maker
If the interruptions continue at close range, after testing another source device and completing the relevant basic checks, consult official support for the speaker’s exact model. If a fault appears to follow the speaker across multiple devices, the manufacturer can advise on model-specific troubleshooting or service. Xiaomi, for example, directs users to local after-sales service for inspection if its listed steps do not resolve instability; support and repair routes depend on brand, model, and region (Xiaomi support).
