Start with your current body measurements and the size chart linked on the specific Chico’s product page—not with a familiar number from another brand. Chico’s uses its own 000–4 scale, including half sizes, and the conversion to standard U.S. sizes is not always one-to-one. For pants, Chico’s says to prioritize hip measurement; for shorter shoppers, petite and short are different fits.
How Chico’s sizing translates to standard sizes
Chico’s size labels run from 000 through 4 and include half sizes. Its chart maps each label to standard U.S. and letter sizes. Treat those equivalents as a starting point: the chart lists Chico’s size 4 for both U.S. 20 and U.S. 22, so the conversion is not a unique match at every size.

How to measure for a Chico’s size
Use a flexible measuring tape and record your current measurements. The chart separates categories—tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, swim and accessories—and does not use one measurement set for every item. Keep the tape parallel to the floor for circumference measurements, and compare your measurements with the applicable chart rather than treating the listed body ranges as garment dimensions.

- For tops: Use the chart’s chest, waist, hip and arm measurements. Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level; follow the chart’s instructions for arm measurement.
- For bottoms: Measure your natural waist and hips. Chico’s defines the hip measurement around the fullest part, with your feet together.
- For pants length: Measure inseam along the inside seam of pants that fit you well, then check the length or inseam option offered for the item.
- For dresses and other categories: Use that category’s own chart rather than assuming the tops or bottoms measurements alone settle the fit.
As examples of body ranges in Chico’s current missy chart, size 1 / U.S. 8/M corresponds to a 31–32-inch waist and 39½–40½-inch hip; size 2 / U.S. 12/L corresponds to a 33½–34½-inch waist and 42–43-inch hip. How to choose a size for pants
When choosing pants, compare your hip measurement first: Chico’s sizing guide identifies hip as the most important number for pants. Then check your waist, the selected inseam or length, and whether the style is missy, petite or short. A size conversion alone cannot account for the cut or fabric of an individual pair; use the chart linked from that product page.

Missy, petite and short: what is different?
Missy and petite
Chico’s describes petite garments for women 5 ft 4 in or under and provides separate petite sizing with adjusted proportions. Petite and short
Chico’s guide says short inseams are longer than petite inseams, while the overall cut does not include the same proportional changes as petite. If you are between 5 ft 2 in and 5 ft 4 in, the retailer’s June 10, 2026 guide suggests trying both options. Does Chico’s run large or small?
Chico’s own guide poses the question of whether its clothes run large or small, but the available brand guidance does not establish that all Chico’s products consistently fit either way. Do not size up or down across the range based on a blanket rule. Compare your measurements with the category chart on the product page and use the item’s specific fit information where available.

- Length and proportions: For pants, check inseam or length as well as hip measurement; for shorter fits, distinguish petite proportions from short length.
