To find the electric rate for a Michigan home, first identify the utility serving the exact address, then use that utility’s current rate schedule and compare the charges against your own usage. Most residential customers cannot currently switch to a competing electricity supplier: the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) says no licensed alternative electric suppliers are marketing or enrolling residential customers.
1. Find the electric utility for your address
Start with the MPSC’s Electricity consumer page. Use its “Utility Provider Search” or “Service Area Map” to identify the likely provider. The search accepts a city or township, but boundaries can vary within an area, so confirm the result against the utility named on a recent bill. The page also links to utility contacts.
The MPSC’s “Compare Average Electric Rates” and “Compare Monthly Residential Bills” resources can help put published figures in context. They are not a substitute for the current tariff that applies to a particular address, customer class, and usage pattern.

2. Get the rate schedule that applies to you
Once you know the provider, match the schedule to your customer class and service. A residential tariff may not apply to a business account, and some options have additional eligibility requirements.

If you want to change the backlight time, you can press and hold "UP" and "DOWN" button at the same time to enter backlight time setting, then press "UP" and "DOWN" to select the backlight time (bL-0 =10 minutes, bL-1=1 hour, bL-2=4 hours, bL-3=8 hours, bL-4=always on), finally press the "COST" to save the backlight time settings
- Overload protection: When the power of the appliance exceeds the overload power, the LCD will display “OVERLOAD” to warn the user. All the buttons will quit working and can only be workable when you lower or remove the load power. The default overload power is 3680W and is adjustable from 0 to 3680W. In general, you need to set the overload power to 1800W before using. Just press the "function" button for more than 3 seconds to enter the setting
- Data Memory Function: The wattage meter will record your power consumption data when you remove it from socket, or remove appliances from the electricity monitor. You can directly see the last data when you use it next time. This function can also automatically save the data when there is a sudden power failure
- Open the MPSC’s Electric Rate Books directory.
- Select the utility that serves the address and locate the applicable rate schedule, effective date, and any relevant rider or factor.
- If the provider is a member-regulated cooperative, use the co-op rate-book link listed separately on the MPSC page. Its rates are not MPSC-approved; check the cooperative’s current schedule.
- For a municipal utility, check its own published schedule or contact the utility. Municipal electric rates generally are not regulated by the MPSC, subject to a limited renewable-energy-plan filing requirement.
The directory’s listed books contain MPSC-approved rates, schedules, rules, regulations, and standard forms for the covered regulated utilities. Oversight differs by provider: the MPSC says it does not regulate retail rates of member-regulated electric cooperatives, although it retains jurisdiction over safety, interconnection, code of conduct, and customer choice. For municipal utilities, the utility or its governing body is the primary source for the current rate.
3. Check whether the rate book reflects recent changes
A rate book may not yet include a recently approved order or a pending power supply cost recovery (PSCR) factor. Before relying on a quoted amount, check the MPSC’s Electric Orders page and the relevant case record, then verify the utility’s current rate page or customer notice. Use the effective date shown in the controlling schedule or order, not just the date a PDF was posted.

The backlight will only lights up when the device is connected to AC power. If no button is pressed, the backlight turns off automatically after 10 minutes. You can also press the "UP" button to turn off the backlight manually, and press any button to turn on backlight again
- Easy to reset: No reset tool needed, our appliance power usage meter is easy to reset. You can press the “M” button for 5 seconds directly to reset the device. After reset, all cumulative data (electricity quantity, cost) will be cleared, and all settings will be restored to factory settings
This matters because rates and pass-through factors can change. For example, a DTE rate card states that its figures were effective February 6, 2025, excludes applicable surcharges and taxes, and may change by MPSC order. Those figures should not be treated as current 2026 rates.

Use the same recent usage profile for every option you compare. Your bill’s kilowatt-hour (kWh) total is a useful starting point, but check the schedule for how charges are actually calculated. A lower advertised energy price may not mean a lower total bill.

The Vue is UL and CE Listed for your safety. 1 second data is only available in the app (when actively open) and retained 3 hours. Minute and hour data are retained in the cloud. 1 minute data is retained 7 days, 1 hour data is retained indefinitely. Export cloud data whenever you want in the app.
- Fixed or customer charge: A monthly amount that may apply regardless of how much electricity you use.
- Energy charge: The per-kWh charge, including any usage tiers or seasonal differences.
- Time-of-use periods: If the rate varies by hour, compare against time-stamped usage. A monthly kWh total alone cannot show which time-of-use option would cost less.
- Riders and PSCR factors: Additional charges or adjustments identified in the current schedule, order, or utility notice.
- Taxes and surcharges: Include them when the documents provide enough detail. If a rate card excludes them, say so in any estimate.
For an apples-to-apples estimate, add fixed charges and the variable charges for the same usage, then include applicable riders and taxes where available. Keep supply charges distinct from delivery charges so it is clear what each rate covers. If the documents do not provide enough information to calculate a full bill, identify the excluded items rather than presenting the result as an all-in total.

Michigan’s electric-choice program is limited. The MPSC says no licensed alternative electric suppliers (AESs) are currently marketing or enrolling residential customers. Historical choice listings therefore do not establish that a household can sign up today.

Eligible business customers in the territories of Consumers Energy, DTE, UPPCO, UMERC, or Cloverland may seek an AES, subject to program rules. Cloverland’s rates are not regulated by the MPSC. At any time, no more than 10% of an electric utility’s average weather-adjusted retail sales for the preceding calendar year may take service from an AES; if the cap is full, applicants enter a queue. The MPSC’s Electric Customer Choice page explains eligibility, licensing, and the queue.
If an AES supplies electricity, its energy price is unregulated and the local utility still handles delivery. As the MPSC puts it: “Your power supply will continue to be delivered by your local electric utility regardless of which alternative electric supplier you choose.” Compare any eligible business offer with the incumbent utility’s full bill, including contract terms and price certainty—not just the supplier’s advertised energy rate.

Quick Recap
A practical comparison checklist
- Confirm the utility for the exact service address and check the name on the bill.
- Match the correct customer class, service type, and eligibility conditions.
- Use a current schedule and effective date; check recent orders, PSCR factors, riders, and utility notices.
- Calculate each option using the same usage. For time-of-use rates, use hourly usage where possible.
- Separate supply from delivery and account for taxes or surcharges—or clearly state what the estimate excludes.
- Before considering an AES offer, verify current eligibility and licensing for the territory; residential enrollment is not currently being offered according to the MPSC.
