What is a Discord User ID?
A Discord User ID is a unique numerical identifier for an account. Discord classifies these IDs as snowflakes and generally represents them as strings in API responses.
The ID stays the same when someone changes their username or display name. It is therefore more reliable for identifying an account than a name that can change or appear differently in different servers.

Turn on Developer Mode
Discord requires Developer Mode to be enabled before the Copy User ID option appears. The setting is available in the desktop or browser interface and in the mobile app.

Desktop app or Discord in a browser
- Select the User Settings cogwheel near the bottom-left corner of Discord.
- Open Advanced in the settings sidebar.
- Turn on Developer Mode.
Android or iPhone
- Tap your avatar in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the User Settings cogwheel in the top-right corner.
- Scroll to Advanced under App Settings.
- Turn on Developer Mode.
Find another user’s Discord ID on a computer
After enabling Developer Mode, you can copy an ID when the person is visible in a server, member list, group DM, message, or direct message.
- Open the server, group DM, or direct message where the user appears.
- Right-click the person’s avatar or name. In a server, you can also use the member list.
- Select Copy User ID.
- Paste the copied value wherever it is needed.
The copied value is a long decimal number. You do not need to type it manually or use a bot or ID-finder website.
Find a Discord User ID on mobile
- Open the server, group DM, or direct message where the user appears.
- Tap the user to open their profile. If needed, long-press the user’s avatar to open the profile.
- Tap the ellipsis menu in the top-right corner of the profile.
- Tap Copy User ID.
If tapping a message opens message actions instead of the complete user menu, open the user’s profile first, then use the ellipsis menu.

How to find your own Discord User ID
Enable Developer Mode, then use the same procedure on your own account:

What does a Discord User ID look like?
A User ID is a long decimal number. Discord does not define a permanently fixed digit count; its developer documentation defines IDs by their snowflake format and 64-bit range.
If you handle IDs in software, store the copied value as a string. Discord’s API returns snowflake IDs as strings to help prevent integer overflow or rounding in some programming languages.

Why “Copy User ID” is missing
Developer Mode is off
This is the primary reason the option is missing. Check the setting again:
- Desktop or browser: User Settings > Advanced > Developer Mode
- Mobile: Avatar > User Settings cogwheel > Advanced > Developer Mode
You opened the wrong menu
Opening a message’s menu may show message-related actions instead of user-related actions. Right-click or tap the user’s avatar or name, open the profile, and look for Copy User ID, not Copy Message ID, Copy Server ID, or Copy Channel ID.
The user is not available to your account
The documented client method requires a location where the person is available, such as a shared server, group DM, or direct message. A username or display name alone does not provide a documented way to reveal the numerical ID in the client.

Mobile menu behavior differs by context
Tapping a message may not immediately show the complete user menu. Open the user’s profile first, then use the ellipsis in the top-right corner. Long-pressing the avatar is another way to open the profile.
Discord User ID myths to ignore
- “The User ID is the username plus #0000.” No. The old discriminator format is not a numerical account ID. Discord now uses usernames separately from display names.
- “A display name identifies one account.” No. Display names are not unique. Server and friend nicknames can also affect which name you see.
- “Changing a username changes the User ID.” No. The numerical User ID remains associated with the account.
- “You need a bot.” No. Developer Mode and Discord’s built-in Copy User ID option are sufficient for the normal procedure.
- “Every User ID has exactly 17 or 18 digits.” Discord defines IDs by their snowflake format and 64-bit range, not a fixed digit count. Discord support materials have described common IDs as 17 or 18 digits, but that is not a permanent format rule.
Do you need a Discord command?
No. You do not need a slash command, bot, developer token, or third-party website to copy a Discord User ID. Enable Developer Mode and select Copy User ID from the person’s profile menu. Third-party sites and bots are unnecessary for the normal procedure and may create privacy or security risks.

Why can’t I see Copy User ID on Discord?
Developer Mode may be disabled. On desktop, go to User Settings > Advanced and enable Developer Mode. On mobile, go to Avatar > User Settings cogwheel > Advanced and enable it.
Can I find a Discord User ID from a username alone?
The normal Discord client method requires the user to be visible in a shared server, group DM, or direct message. A username or display name alone does not provide the Copy User ID option.
